Q about 99/00 VS 01+

If I can't find an 01+ lightning I'm obviously going to have to "settle" for a 99/00. There are a few advantages of this....lower stance and such...but how can I get the engine output on a 99/00 to meet the 01+ specs? I only plan on doing a few mods (Intake, Exhaust, Tuner, wheels, a system, and maybe a pully + tune...Also headlight/tailights because i dislike the stock ones on the 99/00). I understand that these mods will boost the specs, but they will also boost any 01+ models. I searched but couldn't find anything on this! Thanks

this has been covered numerous times but just for a simple refresher.. once you get a custom (or canned for that matter) tune, the differences in HP become less noticeable. You will have 3.55s in the back instead of 3.73s anda 3" steel DS instead of a 5" alum. other differences: 80mm vs 90 mm MAF for 01+ different intake design, and different computer.... i believe those are the only mechanical differences. all the rest are cosmetic...

actually MM+FF put all the 01 lightning stuff on a 99 and gained no horsepower. You'll find various quarter mile times to back this. I think though that mainly the processor has gotten more aggresive over time with A/F ratios as you'll see a dyno test nowadays that show this on the later 03 and 04's, sometimes they are scary lean... my 2 cents worth...

I bought a 2000 about 3 years ago. The truck dynoed 369rwhp/466tor to the wheels in stock form with just a K&N panel air filter. Plus you'll be ok to settle with a 99/00 to 01 and up. Your really not going to notice 20hp difference. My truck also went 13.3 @ 105 on F1s. Here are pics of my truck with dyno sheets on it. http://www.cardomain.com/id/jkstang78

if you're goin to mod it you might want to do the standard 4lb pulley, chip, filter kit of your choice, FTVB (transmission valve body.. real noticeable change in demeanor of the truck) and I'm a little partial to the innovation prosport lid....

Thanks. They are 18s and are chrome replics. STAY AWAY from them. 3 years later they look like ****e. From the winter and salt. I barely drove the truck in winter. I'm going to look into getting a new set of chrome ones from Ford. The preivous owner had them on, So I have no clue how long these have ben on the truck. I order the bed cover from Ford so it was a ford one.
