Phenolic v.s. Metal Caliper Pistons

Our rear brake calipers can contain either
phenolic or metal pistons. Has anyone
any tech on which one is better? I would
think the phenolic would transfer less heat
to the caliper casting, but I am not sure
what other advantage there is.

TIA,

Cliff

Yes it is mainly for heat.but does it have that heat ring on it like the fronts ones? that also helps in blocking heat the down side to the plastic is that it does 'crush' alittle during braking so you have a little less pedal feel.stan

What "heat ring" are you talking about? I have
the metal ones now in the rear and they need rebuilding
so that was shy I was asking ... I haven't had stockers
in the front for years Stan, so I don't rembember what
the Heat Ring is.

The "dust shields" on the calipers evaprate after one session
so they have been gone for years. This is the second set of
calipers on the rear ... Maybe it's because the dust shields
go missing and I contaminate the pistons when I retract them
with some dirt from the outside?

I dunno ... I hate to try the Phenolics and have problems.

Whatta think?
