Now that we are getting ethenol laced fuel I'm curious as to affects on our vehichles. Do we need a retune?, more or less prone to detonation?. The alcohol will absorb water so what happens to octane rating. Tuners chime in please.

 

The octane rating will go up with the addition of ethanol to unleaded gasoline. There should be no problem with late model vehicles running E-10.

 

MPG goes down by about 13-18 %

The percentage varies at every site I've looked at. No personal experience to draw from. I wonder what the dollar per mile difference will be? That's the real question, isn't it?

 

In addition to worse mileage on E10 there is a negative side effect of about 5% leaner AF ratio. This may or may not be offset by the slight octane improvement gained. Check with your tuner to be sure.
