It's too bad he's so MAD! He really ought to search around his area for some faster L so he'll finally get it!

asdeman--hope to see you at the track with A-Lightning and myself soon. We have a blast.
WHITE 'OOL IN OHIO--If all you have is Lightning owners to confer with, they will surely be 9 sec. vehicles in due time and the quality backslapping time will continue as usual.
4D THNDR--I started out with the 13.2 time in my origional post (which no-one seems to remember) and the folks HERE have graduated to the 13.0 figure. I had nothing to do with it. If ya don't believe me, go read ALL the posts.
PFA--Your optimism is appreciated and your figures in all respects should prove to be true, but have you done it? NO! You say it should do it, but have you done it?
Let me know when you get that 13.0 slip and what mods it took to get it. I will bet its slightly more than a chip and an air filter.

My L ran consistent low 14.30's fresh out of the box with 1000 miles on it. at 4500 miles a oil change along with a replacement type K&N only it ran constant low 13.80's. Then after just adding a chip nothing more it ran mid 13.30's all of this was just playing around not really trying to get good times just having fun. With the weather and other variables as a factor it is possible that one could run low 13.20's maybe even high 13.10's not consistently but a one time possibility.

Question

MAD,

Just out of curiousity (I know we've spoken before on other boards...sorry we couldn't meet up at Ennis a few months ago and race the 'Stangs, BTW) are you including the _inlet tube/filter kits_ when you say "filter"?

I'd be curious as to whether or not just a conical K&N/whatever would flow enough air to show an increase in boost level over stock. However, my PSP inlet tube (which is a really nice piece, BTW) that comes with a nice conical filter did show up on the boost gauge as a gain of ~2psi. That would seem to me to be a legitimate HP adder. I have not dyno'd my truck with the inlet tube/filter kit...only with a chip, but I figure I've got to be over 370rwhp now.

I didn't run faster than 13.20 with these mods, and only ran that once in awesome air (which as you know we don't have much of down here in N. TX), but it was consistent 13.3-13.4x all day...same mph, though, so the power remained constant. Just got a nice 1.92 60' on the 13.203 pass.

Oh, and the most important thing is that on that day it was leaving modded LT-1s, and some LS-1s in the dust. Nothing earth shattering...I expect that. Point is that it wasn't like stock LS-1s were running 12.8s on the same day.

Can't we get along here?

Thumbs up

we all need a piece of pie!

Mad,
I just had the chip put in this weekend.I could absolutely not believe the difference it makes. Its like night and day.As you know i ran 13.8 w/filter.I have only been to the track 2 times so i really dont know how to drive the thing yet.Im not going to be able to do any testing with just the chip mod as the 3.73 gears are going in tomarrow. Now all i need is some of those MT drag radials........and some pie!!!!!!

Wes--I guess you know A-Lightning has the PSP filter (Sal's?) and a chip from Sal. His best time is with the Superchip in the 13.48 range. With Sal's chip he had a 13.6 something in different air. I have heard from many folks that Ennis is a solid 2 tenths faster than Okla. City so your times seem very legit to me. These guys here are claiming 13.0's with a chip of unknown origion and a simple K&N factory replacement filter. I say "NAY". If we were talking about Grand Nationals where the chip is able to control the boost pressure, I would say anything is possible as long as the head gaskets are intact. The PSP inlet tube that you speak of has also been duplicated in Cobra's with Vortechs in that it usually increases boost pressure about 2 PSI (or 1 inch of HG) with no other mods.

I'm trying my best to get along. In the meantime the attacks keep coming from mostly guys who have qualified for a car loan and have no experience with race cars..
Wes-- I respect your experienced opinions always.

Got replacement KN and like MANY others here saw NO difference in ET's. The airbox is the restriction not the panel filter.

I have little racing experience and No car loan so I am in real trouble.

I only saw one 13.0 post on this thread and I think that was a typo, maybe not but I thought he had said 13.2's before.

I was also pointing out to asdeman that you're claim had changed as he was still refering to your old 13.2 no go claim. Do you now concede the 13.2 or is that still out of your sliderule possibilities?

I guess if I WAS to run a 13.2...or even better with my mods and probably DR's you'd say I wasn't telling the truth about the mods, right?! Just and don't be so !!!

PFA--you haven't, you didn't, and I would bet money you can't. Drag Radials have not been mentioned in the 13.2 to 13.0 claims. Furthermore, I have no idea what mods you have and I really don't care. A Lightning with a K&N and an unknown chip is not capable of running a 13.0. If you guys want to change it back to a 13.2, then that's OK with me too. I aim to please the less optimistic of Lightning owners also.

Good luck--- mad`

Cool

MRBBQ,

I'd like a slab of pie, please.

I can't believe you are choosing to go on some stinking BOAT instead of partying in St. Louis! Oh well, have a great time!

Later,

Cool

Even though I don't have a Lightning, I did recently pick up this little beauty for my wife....

Haven't been to the track yet, but am very interrested in what mods would be the best bang for the buck for the cobra.

Obviously there is more to the ET's than just HP vs. T.... I can see where Mad might not believe some things that people have said here, and that is his right. But at the same time, I know I believe a vast majority of the thinks I read on here and I know that there can be a great difference between the same vehicles straight from the factory. Also, some vehicles respond more to computer changes than others.

Anyway, lets just everybody take everything with a grain of salt and respect others opinions wheter we agree with them or not.
