Question Exhaust Pipe Diameter

I just got dual 2 chamber Flowmasters on my L. Guys did a nice job but I when I got home I looked at the part numbers on the mufflers they installed and they're both 2.25" inlet and outlet. Doesn't the L have 2.5" diameter pipe? BTW the part numbers are 42441 and 42442. They do sound gr8!!

I measured my outlet pipe and it came to 3" on the outside diameter. It is near 3" going into the muffler.

Exclamation

Yeah, those clowns put 2.25" mufflers on. They should have used #42541 and 42542.

Tundra: Those are the tip diameters, the rest is 2.5".

Andy,
So you got 40 series flowmasters put on? I have heard some say they are too loud, is it. Also, if you don't mind me asking how much did you pay and where did you get it done, a local shop, big chain (Meineke, Midas..) Thanks.

Question

Is anybody getting any kind of HP increase from just a cat-back system? and if so, what is the setup?

Thanks

SVT-Snake: They're only real loud at WOT. We're talkin' wake the dead loud. Just cruising though, they're not too loud. I got the work done at a local shop in Kannapolis, NC (Muffler Masters). Mufflers were $65 apiece and $60 for labor.

4DTHNDR: so what are the ramifications of using mufflers with 2.25" inlets and outlets? Also I'm curious, should they have installed an H-pipe upstream of the mufflers?
Thanks.

Cool

You would have to put it on a dyno to tell but off hand I would guess you lost some torque on top. They are a restriction no doubt 'cuz the stock pipes are 2.5" up to the mufflers. I'd go back and give them a ration of ***** about it (tell them you feel a loss of power)and have them put the 2.5's on. They're probably closet bowtie boyz .

4DTHNDR: Actually the guys I went to are considered among the best around here. They do the exhaust systems for several of the Nascar race teams. I took another look at the receipt and I noticed I got charged for 2 adapters ($3 each). I looked under the truck and the pipe they added on either side of the mufflers looks to be the same diameter of the surrounding pipe. But what do I know? It's funny you should mention loss in high end torque. I noticed that very thing on my way home from work today. Thanks for the advice...I think I'll be paying them a visit on Monday.
