Should we always use premimun Gas?

Ashenor,
I live in Wyoming at 6000 feet. The other day I decided to put in 88 octane because the higher you go the less octane is needed. Well afterwards, I was driving and it started pinging! I threw in 2 bottles of octane booster, if this is what happens here I would hate to see at sea level.

You're more likely to have trouble at part-throttle than at wot -- and you're at part throttle much more than you are at wot.
It's usual to lean-out at part throttle, since that's where the government thinks you make pollutants -- and when lean, it's harder to start the fire -- and the less-predictable the burn.
Get Mike's opinion -- but I think you'll find that you don't want to use low octane at any cost. It's the ping that you DON't hear that really hurts (Thank God for knock sensors.).

Would not advise running anything other than the best you can get. When I bought my L it had the cheap stuff and ran like sh%t. Made all kinds of scary pinging noises. Filled it up with the good stuff, fixed it. Pay now, or pay later.

Found that by switching to mid a little while back, not only did I get a ping under heavy acceleration, and a loss in power, but that I actually made worse miliage as well.
I know the #1 reason is that I have a chip, and they're based on premium fuel, as they take advantage of the way that high octane fuel burns. But I've also been told that the stock programming works on the same principal, it's tuned to operate only at high octane levels, and does not have the ability to to notice a timing error when switching to lower octane to make any compensation.
