Post Holley Thunder

Hey guys,

Just saw the parts to a new Holley Thunder kit. Intercooler and supercharger set up looks similar to the Lightning, for which it was obviously named after. I was told it makes more HP though.

I was at So-Cal Speed Shop and some of the guys there were doing R&D for Holley. I don't think the kit is ready for release yet.

If it could produce more boost, but I don't think it will, then You could make more power with it.
Remember this kit goes on an engine with higher compression, this will make more power with lower boost.

292hp that is the weakest lightning I have ever heard of...

If you guys see Holley's ads they slam the
Lightning, but their own horsepower claims
are lower than the stock Lightnings.
Go figure.

Interesting....

Hey...you can buy all kinds of blowers. I think it is great that they are coming out with something like this. It's looks like a nice setup but probably a nightmare to get working perfectly. I have installed many a Vortech system on F-bodies and while this is totally unrelated to the holley setup, there is always something that will go wrong or you will forget.

Thats fine let them add all that stuff to a reg. pick up and when you blow that motor or trans. and take to ford for warr. work they'll throw you off there lot but I guess if you have that much money they'll be happy to take it. And with all that work lets face it, they STILL WON'T HAVE A LIGHTNING END OF STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd rather buy a Lightning motor/tranny and drop it into an F-150. And still have a warranty!

WOW, after reading that I am not too impressed. I would rather install a NOVI on a 5.4

I agree. the best thing about a novi blower is it's ability to quickly find any problems with the drivetrain. usually after these weak links have been "tested", the novi's onboard systems will give these weak parts the boot, so all you have to do is pay for the "installation". last time i looked under my hood, the only thing left that had not been replaced was "Dr Novi" himself

My guess is the "thunder" doesn't include a steel crank, forged pistons, f250 rear end, beefed up tranny, and a stack of other stuff to handle the heat and power. Probably the thunder is the noise it makes the 4th time you use it... ka-boom!

I read Holley's ad copy on the Thunder system, and then sent them an e. mail challenging the 292 HP they claimed for the L. They replied, and said Oops, it was a typo, should have indicated 392 HP on the L.
