Does lowering a truck = better 1/4 times?
#16
Lowering a vehicle is a double edged sword in drag racing. Lowering will reduce areodynamic drag (less air under the vehicle to stir up), but will drop the center of gravity, reducing weight transfer. And in a leaf spring suspension moves the imaginary point (instant center) that the rear axel pivots on forward, reducing the torque reaction.

I have to back up with Ray is saying. My wife and I drag race regularly and I can usually tell exactly what the run is. For example last Friday I rode with my wife. She didn't launch all that great and I knew it. I told her before we picked up the slip she cut a 2.3 60' and ran about 14.8 or 14.9 (this is not a Lightning btw). Sure enough, 2.3 60' and 14.8. Then I drove, told her I cut a 2.0 60' and ran a 14.5 or 14.6. Sure enough pick up the slip, 2.008 60' and a 14.5xx. I'm not stirring the pot or anything I'm just saying some people are focused enough and "in tune" with their vehicle to know exactly what it's doing. To answer the original question. Lowering a vehicle usually helps top speed and hurts 60' times. In this case and IMHO the trade off is not worth it because the loss of traction is not made up for in a short 1/4 mile.

Ray, I'm not trying to get on you, I just don't believe you, (or anyone else) can feel tenths of a second, or the difference in 92 and 94 octane. You may hear the difference... but feel the difference? But I guess I'm wrong and you are just Badass! I was not trying to be an a$$hole, just giving my opinion. I thought that was what we did here. I will admit that even though I don't believe you on this, my main reason for posting was to try to get you to go into you old BadAss mode. That was fun stuff to read!! Sorry!

Hey Ray!
I just applied for a calibrator for your BadA$$-O-Meter gage. I am working with a large supplier that many of you will recognize. They are the makers of the famous Olsonite saddle (toilet seat to most of you). I am sure this device will ensure that none of you slip through and will help to keep you gage high and dry.
