Attn Chip Manufactures.......
Would it be possible to design a California Calibration for the oxygenated gas we have to run out here?
It pings easier and is only 92 octane were as most of the country can get 93 octane.
Octane boost is out of the question for a 13 mpg vehicle, to expensive.
This would reduce the number of "recalibrations" required by your companies do to people (I'm one of them) having detonation problems here.
This isn't a Lightning only problem, lots of Stangs have the same problem with there cars that other people with simular setups do not have in other states. See it all the time on the Stang boards.
Just an idea for ya. I'm sure its complicated and I really don't have a clue as to what you do to tune a chip to start with. As usuall, I'll leave the hard stuff up to you all.

I have just sent my Superchip back to be re-burned and I have asked the same question. I'll re-post if they answer.

And what is really so incredibly silly about the oxygenated gas is that while the goal was cleaner burning fuel...the high levels of MTBE in it can cause ground water contamination.
I guess we need to ask Al Gore what is worse, huh?
I know in TX they are trying to get rid of oxygenated gas altogether b/c it has been proven that its harmful to our water supply (high water table here).

I'm reluctant to even post on this board, but here are my thoughts.
These Lightning's have a knock sensor. It can be calibrated to allow the knock sensor to remove spark when it's knocking without having to constantly "re-tune" the truck.
It can also be "tuned" to add spark, up to MBT, if it's not knocking.
There is no reason for any of these trucks to knock if done right.
I cannot tell you what our chips does, for fear of the webmaster coming after me. If you send us an E-Mail or post on our board, I can discuss this further.

Does anyone know if Oregon gas gets oxygenated? Part-year? Year-round?
Or how would I go about finding out for myself?
This could be part of the reason why running my chip in performance mode causes my engine to ping...
Thanks for any info out there!

Oh, and I don't think you have to worry about the gas there in California with this new program...
