Question Insurance rates for Lightning

When I got insurance on my L I was surprised that I was getting the same rate as if I had a "normal" F150. Should I call them back and beg them to take more of my money? (in case I need to make a claim) Even the dealer seemed surprised.

My insurance guy said he thought there was a difference but he rated it as an F150 to cut me a break. Besides he thought I was old enough to know better than go racing around town. Yeah right. My rate actually went down when I traded my Explorer for the L. I guess that's the beauty of being over 40.

I believe these trucks do not pose an additional liabilty to the insurers. Of the few wrecks I have seen on this board all have been hit by someone else. Evidently most of us are older and have learned how to drive. My insurance company charges the regular F-150 rate.

So far my insurance company is rating my Lightning as a regular f150.

I too pay less for my L than my 4x4.

I have already gone through one renewal and no increases...yet. My next bill comes in August.

Just got my new policy last night.Premium went up almost 150 bucks,it clearly stated on the policy "1999 Ford SVT Lightning" oh well, It was expected.I knew they would realize these are no regular F-150's.

i pay about 50 bucks less (six months) than i do for my 95 flairside 4x4 but that's listed as my primary driver wher my L is listed as a recreational vehicle guess that is the advantage of having multi-car discount ya-think

Since there are so few of the new lightnings around, the insurance companies have not had the chance/ability to do actuarial studies. If enough lightnings start getting into accidents and the insurance companies notice this, they might get their statisticians to run some numbers. For now, they have simply used the ones for the F150, so drive careful!

You'd think theft would be an issue as much as accidents...

I wish i had a "Truck" rate. It went up $400 from the Contour SVT I had. (That was in the Performance Sedan class). Give me a week and hopefully I will finnaly be able to get a better rate (I'll be over 25). These company are just out to make the big $$$, and young drivers are an easy target, especially in NJ!
