Question Mods???

Okay need some Help. I bought a 2000 blk L. This truck is the coolest thing on the planet. I love it and I have been bitten by the speed bug. I know just enough about modifing engines to get me in trouble. I want to start beefing it up. What does evrybody recommend? probably Bolt-on's only. Please include the items, approx cost, where I might get it, approx HP/TRQ increase and anything else I might need to know. Would really appreciate info.

Dave

Glad you like your new truck.

Here are my experiences...but there are others who've done WA more than myself. I will be keeping this vehicle pretty docile, but the three mods I've done have helped a lot.

Baseline the truck ran 13.96 @ 97.xx mph (against a 15mph headwind).

With a Superchip only... 13.65 @ 99.8mph (against the same 15mph headwind...same day testing as above)

Added a PSP inlet tube/filter kit (showed 2psi gain on the stock boost gauge, FWIW) it ran 13.20 @ 103.3mph in excellent air which we normally do not get here in N. TX. This was accomplished on stock tires. The truck ran consistent 13.2-13.4s that day.

Since then I have added a TransGo shift kit which helped the shifting even more than the electronic reprogramming of the trans done by the Superchip. The shifts are much quicker and firmer, especially when you want it at full throttle. This has to be worth at least .10 in ET, but I have not raced the truck since Feb. when I ran the 13.20. Plus, air conditions would not be as favorable now, so comparisons based on ET/MPH alone would not be fair.

Hope this helps as a start. There are others who can add much more.

Ok,Ill take the time to tell you.First get a chip.Superchip/swanson chip/psp chip/inject chip...what ever you want.Second, get a downs Ford air intake. Its a air filter tube set up that makes your S/C scream!!!!These two items alone will bring you to mid-low 13s depending on climate/traction.they combined are good for about 40hp/25lbs torque.Keep in mind these are the absolute best bang for the buck!!!! Trust me! Two simple bolt ons that will lower ETs by 5-7 tenths I reccomend one of the two following chips:

Superchip.....1-888-car chip
$350.00 www.Swansonperformance.com...chip

Downs air intake.www.downsford.com
$149 to your door!!

We are all addicted here, also. Everyone wants more HP and alot of the L's are running low 13's with a few in the mid/high 12's. The best setup is a chip and maf/filter combo. With both of these mods usual HP gain of 50-60HP. The prices are all around the same the maf/filter 120-140 and the chip 300-450. Check with these companies and pick what you like. PSP,Swanson,SHM,Downs Ford. Best of luck hunting and have fun on the roads.

Just put a chip in today on stock '00. I won't say which one it is because from what I've read you'll be happy with any of the ones mentioned. It was an amazing difference. I also have an intake setup on the way. The last thing I'll do is wait for the exhaust wars to determine the overall winner in terms of at least the same performance-hopefully more-and some nice deep-throated notes at WOT. Anybody care to step in on this one?

The consensus of the board is that a good chip/MAF combo will give you the most bang for the buck. I can't verify this, I haven't got mine yet (doggone it, Danny, call me back), but I can say with some certitude that the stock gears suck, and depending on what tires you are running you will be much happier with 3.78s or 4.10s.
