Post Corvette Z06

On CAR&DRIVER Tv this weekend they tested the new Z06. 385hp LS-6. It is a hardtop only and has brake cooling ducts. 0-60 in 4.3 sec. 1/4 mile in 12.7. I've seen a post here on the board where a few said it wouldn't be very fast-guess you were wrong. It also pulls .98g's and is 3 sec faster than the LS-1 on the twisties. Who is gonna be first in line to TRY that bad boy?

No matter how you package it, it's still a chevy. Also I'd like to see him beat me more than 1 light, and not spent $1000 to replace his clutch.

I'm about 100-1 and only lost to a 99 Viper and that vett is not in the same class.

I would rather have a 93-95 supra and about $4000 in engine work than any vett, sorry dude, but post that crap else where. Try www.ls1.com maybe someone over there cares.

They had the Z06 against a new Cobra R and Viper R/T 10. The viper won in the straight away (of course) but the Z06 beat the R in the 1/4. The R beat the viper and vette in the slalom. This was all in the new motor trend mag. They claimed chevy had got the Z06 4.0 flat in the 0-60 test.

I wasn't putting down the Lightnings or anything. Just letting some of the owners know the Z06's are coming.

I just came from the FVC board. Those R/T guys just don't have a clue do they? I too thought a 360 in a small truck would be neat at first. But none of them have good numbers to back them up.The best a saw was a 14.6 or something(with a chip and exhaust).Over here completely stock Lightnings are way faster. Heck, I even remember a guy here with a reg cab F150 that beat a R/T.

Lastly, I have a friend that has worked with Ford for the past 12 years. He showed me a document from somewhere in Ford about the new Lightnings. Claimed a supercharged V10 is iin the works. He told me to wait and see in Sept. or Oct. Any credence in this?

Cool

All of the R/T guys there, are great, except for the "twins" as everybody is refering to them now. Ryan and Brian. Ryan is 15, and thinks he knows everything about everything. You know, the type of person everybody can't stand. We have some L owners there, that absolutely hate em. I do to, but can't say what I'm thinking, because I'm a moderator over there; so I have to keep an open mind about things and "try" not to be a biased ford owner .

The site is growing pretty good. It is a year old, and has almost 1800 members to it. It's getting better with the Tech stuff; if we can just get rid of the A-holes who make it hell for everybody else.

I find it remarkable that dodge and chevy guys come over here to make their BS comments.

I love kicking their @ss but I never see a Viper owner spreading the ****.

Always look up I guess? Maybe be one day I can beat a fast truck, what a way to live?

I think KnightS was just keeping you up to date on what the other camp was doing. I know how much you guys like your Lightnings but they are not unbeatable knowing what the competition is doing is good way to stay ahead of the pack. What ever the vette has will soon come to the camaro then someone will eventually put a supercharger on it so your looking at 385hp stock then what ever a supercharger would add but I imagine it would be well over 500hp.

Just got my Road & Track in the mail. They tested the Corvette Z06 at 4.6 0-60 and 13.0 in the 1/4 mile @110.5. According to the article they will make about 5,000 of the Z06 type and 20,000 to 25,000 of the slower garden variety vette. They obtained the best 1/4 mile by dumping the clutch at about 3,000 RPM. I wonder how many of those starts the car will handle? My guess, not too many? Anyway, from the last few posts it looks like quite a few bolts are heading towards sub 13.0 1/4 mile times which means that new Z06 owners, having just spent $46,000.00, will still have the opportunity to get smoked by a pickup truck. I can't
wait for the new Z06 to hit the road!!!

In Motor Trend, The interviewed chevy about the Z06, and they got the 0-60 in 4.0 flat. Thay also tested the 1/4 in 12.5or something like that.

Thumbs down

some of the blue oval cheerleaders can wave their pom-poms, all you want to, but a stock lightning will have trouble with most stock LS-1's. you can modify, but so can they. a ZO6 is not what i would go hunting for to race. anyone who sees the ZO6 and the Viper as just another chevy and dodge deserves a dose of blue oval vd (piston-slap)

Cool

All it takes is cubic money, boys. Give me enough money and I'll build a Civic that will smoke a Viper. I accidentally tuned in a Grand Touring race from Lime Rock on the Deuce and witnessed a Saleen 'Stang waste a Viper and Z06. Guess it is their new model. The old one had 495 h.p., and cost about $56K. This one is obviously a lot faster than any stock 'Vette, Viper, or Cobra R. Not my cup of tea, though. I am very happy with my L., and when I get through with just a couple thousand $ worth of mods I feel I will hold my own with any stock C5. Not bad for a vehicle that will tow my boat. I think elegance counts for a lot, and the only vehicle I have a Jones for is the Type F, when and if it is ever produced. Wouldn't swap my L. for one, but if my stock appreciates significantly I might have to have one of those puppies, too.

The only point I was trying to make was, I've never lost to a vett much less a chevy, and I don't post this fact on chevy boards. (Chip, MAF, and K&N filter)

Also the only time I've had any problem with a vett was when he/she was in my blind spot "ha ha" BTW again you just smoked your clutch didn't you!

I'm so tired of visitors coming to our board/forum and posting *****. Again I don’t post on their board to post crap.

If I lose to a vett so being, you don't want to know what I'm up to, MAYBE 900 HP. Oh that must hurt.

Secret aluminum project with a blower, this is going t be an interesting traction project.
