Cool Drop kits

I know this has been posted before, but.... for those who have lowered your Lightnings, who's kit did you use? Would you use it again? And finally, where did you purchase, website? Thanks for helping this Fast Gator become Fast-n-Lowered Gator.

Fast Gator,

I have a 2000 Lightning and lowered it with a Chassis Tech Kit.

The nice thing about the Chassis Tech Kit was you could buy each part individual.

So what I did was purchase F-150 3 inch drop coil springs for the front. Don’t forget the Lighting already comes 1 inch lower than a standard F-150. So these spring will really only lower you 2 inch in the front!

For the rear, I used the hanger brackets. The hanger brackets lowered it 2 inches in the rear. I felt the hangers kept the rake of the truck looking better than shackles.

Lets not forget the entire Drop kit would lower a stock F-150 3 inches in the front with the coil springs, and 4 inches rear, if you used the hangers and shackles.

I purchased the coil springs & rear hangers from ZMotive Inc. 1-877-966-8483 and spoke to Max. The total cost including shipping was $170.00.

The only other thing that has to be done is a front-end alignment.

Good Luck,

Matt

Talking

Nathan, FSUFAN,and Floyd91: Many thanks for the reply's. I was just looking to drop the rear a couple inches to close the gap between the wheel well and the top of the tire. BTW FSUFAN, I also ordered Danny's chip and pro-m last friday. At present time Iam on the look-out for the Fed-Ex man. Got a money order in my hot hands! Once I get right, I'll be taking a trip back to Tampa town to see my boys and hope to catch the car show with all the Lightnings. Later

Cool

Fast Gator,

Congrat’s on your soon to have Swanson Chip and Pro-M Mass Air. You will be VERY satisfied with it, I’ll promise you.

It will make a tremendous difference from your stock truck.

There were a bunch of great Lightning owners in Tampa, and they would love to have you at their show for sure!

Make sure you give us a report once you receive and get your Mass Air & Chip installed.

Good Luck & Set The Road On Fire,

Matt

For just dropping the rear I would suggest Any rear 2" drop shackle. They run around 50.00 for the set and are a do it yourself project. This is a should do

Just lowered my truck couple hours ago, i used the Aim 2" Lowering shackles. It is a very easy do it yourself project, took me about an hour and no cursing suprisingly.

For all of you that have lowered your trucks using 2" shackles, how has the handling been affected? If you would like to direct me to a particular thread on specifically handling, please fire away. I would guess there are quite a few of us, including Fast Gator that are wondering what the effects are other than appearance.

Hey Black2000L Where did you purchase your Aim shackles? I looked at the on line store with out much luck, for the shackles that is. I bought a set of clear corners. Any of you fellow board members that are running the clear corners, Did you change the bulbs to an amber colored bulb?

Fast Gator,

Try

http://www.truckn.com/

for drop shackles. Does not affect handling in the least.

The clear corners also look great. The stock turn signal bulb in the front is already amber. Ten minute job.

Fast Gator,

WHAT04 mentioned the site i order the shackles from, it took them exactly 7 business days to get them to me. As for handling if the shackles did anything they improved it, just my opinion though.

I used 2" drop shackles on my L and I think it improved the handling around the corners greatly. Not sure about traction though.

I know the bed makes up a smaller portion of the mass of the truck, but lowering it 2" must lower the overall center of gravity somewhat. I would expect a small improvement in cornering, but what the hell do I know?
I will say that it sure looks mighty nice. I am amazed at the clearance over the rears in the stock truck.
