Post 3.73s and stock PCM?

I saw Moses' thread and was curious if anyone did the 3.73 mod without getting a chip. He said he didn't have a chip and his computer was compensating.

If anyone has done this, how was the performance difference. I didn't do a search, it seems like if one has the plans on getting gears, it seems like they've already got a chip, or one is in the mail.

Thanks...

took my truck into the dealer, to have the octain level bumped up to 91 (they come set at 87octain for detonation purposes) and i beleive the tech said that he could set the computer to allow the gear swap, so that the speedo would be correct, atleast it might be worth checking into before you decide to do anything. i've decided to to do all my mods before the chip so i don't have to keep sending the chip back to have it recalibrated for each mod

I'll keep that in mind when I go to the dealership, but I was wondering if the 3.73s had an adverse affect like the 4.10s and a stock PCM. Thanks FAST

Tundra..... Put a set of 3.73's in mine, then used the NGS to set the revs/tire size to componsate the speedo. Haven't had a bit of a problem. Don't have a chip yet either. Best run was a 13.7@100.5mph, 1.94 60ft on the f-1s, ran 15 psi.

since the 3.73s are an available option from your dealer (and will be standard on the 2001s) your dealer has a dealy-bob thingee (notice the computer savvy tech talk) that can program your EECU for those gears. imo this is about the only advantage to going with the 3.73s instead of the 4.10s.

and, just curious, since evidently the OEM EECUs are programmed for 87 octane, is anyone actually using 87 in their trucks? if so, any adverse effects?

Tundra,

I was over at Cal Worthington today. They had a 2K white "L" there. If I remember correctly, I believe the price was $31,700. The salesguy had a smart-*** remark' "it's the ONLY one in Alaska." Yeah, B.S. But anyway, if you know anyone looking for one. I'd get one in a heartbeat, but I need something to tow the snowmachines in the winter.

Talking

Running a set of 16" slicks about 26" diameter is about the same as having a 373 if you want to experiment. Running the same slicks with the 373 should give you about a 390 and you go back to the 373 when you change back to the f1s.
