Thumbs up Battery Box and Roll Bar

Some of you have been asking about my battery box and how the bar mounts and if the tray is still usable. If the pics down load correctly here they are.

Not to start an argument but i could not bolt down a rollbar inside my Lightning. Not unless I was gonna scca race it every weekend.High risk is running 11s without any serious mods or bars.To me it could only be if it was purchased just for racing.i just cant see doing it to a limited production Lightning.Looks good though. What are you running for times?

The bar isnt quite so necessary for drag racing. I'd say the same for autocross. BUT, if you do much high-speed road racing, I think one mishap is one too many. Anyway, does anyone know where to find bigger pics? I'd love to see details of the battery setup.

Unhappy

Stan, how about some padding on that rollbar...

Rollbar + no helmet + car accident = possible death

There is padding that goes on it ,but I removed it so everyone can see the bar better.I mainly race the truck on the track so the majority of the time I'm wearing a helment and a 3 layer suit.Truck has 11,000 miles on it, bought it with 7000,and the 5000 that I've put on it have been racing, drove it to chicago once about 1100 miles, average about 150 per event so more some less. The bar doesn't bother me so much as my head hitting the bolt that holds the forward strut bar in place, would make a nice size hole in someones head.

Ruslow,
Did the inspectors consider that roll bar 11.99 and faster legal? I wasn't sure if it had to be a true six point (loop with two bars back and two forward) for the inspectors to OK it.
I was just wondering for future info. I'm hoping to get the truck a little faster and I may have to address that issue then.

I do open track events and racing ,so the rules are different than drag racing.Have thought about making a 5 or six point bar for the Lightning but to make it LEGAL, the forward bars have to be elbow height and that would make the door almost worthless and to make the bars swing out and still have the strenght would be more exspense than the majority of the people would or could justify.Am currently deciding on what to do for door intrusion bars now[as for design and shape],but going through the back window is out.First you have to tie to frame and the cab is in rubber[even thou my bars tie indirectly to the frame via cab bolts]you will have flex and that would not be good as well as how to get it thou the back window.Stan

Better add rollbars to the FAQ.
