Who is using the SCT Pro Racer software and tuning their own truck?

 

I am using the SCT Pro Racer package on both of my Lightnings.(The Gen 1 has an OBD2 computer now)
I will admit that I only do very simple changes to my tune. I have a friend that is an SCT dealer that helps me with the hard stuff and does all the big changes on the dyno for me.

 

I love mine.

 

I started with a tune from a tuner and use the PRP to fine tune and adjust my tune. Since I am in the middle of the ocean with no access to a dyno, it has been great for me.

 

I switched over from the Predator (Diablo/ Granatelli) tuning. I'm happy with the SCT PRP. Like others I had a reputable tuner, thanks (JJ) build me a couple good files to start with. I suggest investing in the tuning manual as well. SCT has great tech support. I also like the fact that the x-cal 2 holds multiple tunes and seems to load or flash faster than the predator. I highly recomend the PRP. Also I've noticed especially lately that most of the (better tuners) use SCT software, says I. What say you?

I have been under the impression that a lot of guys were tuning their own and just wanted to see if it was true.

 

Another PRP user here, should have done it much sooner. Once you get the hang of it and have all the proper datalogging capabilities-wide band especially-then tuning is a snap. The only down side is you lose the bragging rights from tuning on a dyno but that's what the track is for right?

 

How much does this software cost and where do you buy it?

What are the limitations of the PRP as compared to the full blown dealer custom tuning software?

 

The PRP software is @300 and you can get it from any SCT dealer or through SCT directly. It contains more parameters than you could ever possibly need to adjust. The only real difference is that the PRP only comes with one computer code to tune and the dealer stuff comes with multiple ones. There may be other small differences as well but would prove inconsequential for argument's sake.

Wow.300 bucks? I paid 800 for my setup from mod depot.it included the s/w,xcal2,and a base file.It was a while back,just before the xcal 2 came out,but dayum,did I really overpay that much!? Oh well.Its paid itself off already w/ all the changes my truck has been thru.

If your looking to get the prp,get it from someone who really understands and has experience w/ your individual setup.Mad,your a rare breed w/ that 32valver,but Im sure there is a dealer out there that can get you a base file very close to what you need.My base file from mod depot needed allota work,since they seem to focus on mustangs.But I can say I would have driven a tuner crazy getting my truck to where it is today,perfecto!
