Question Cobra R Waterpump Question?

Cobra R Waterpump Question?

Part number YR3Z8501AB was superceded by part number 5R3Z8501A.

Anyone (Rich?) have any details on what's different in the new number?

Mine bit the dust today ... Sounds like a threshing machine in there.
82K on the thing, so I guess it's due to die.

Thanks is advance!!!

The pump being used as a Cobra R is actually a standard Mustang GT/Cobra pump. The Navigator has a similar low cavitation impellor as the Mustang pump, but of larger diameter to improve cooling over the Mustang pump.

I would make sure I bought a new FORD pump rather than aftermarket, such technical improvements in impellers do not always make it into aftermarket pumps. They generally have a low tech impellor that is used for all applications rather than smanufacturing and stocking multiple pumps.

Cliff,

I installed the Navi pump a year and a half ago with great results. I got mine for $86 from a Ford dealer in Minn.

Here is the old thread on NLOC.

The napa pump is unoficially a motorcraft pump....it has the up to date impellars and is made of aluminum instead of iron like the stock pump

Get the navi pump. (one pictured on the left)

If you can buy the ford one it would be best.. It'll have the better bearing and seal.
