Post When do they start to build the 2001?

Here in Southern California it is tough to get a deal on a Lightning. Too many people with more money than brains around here. (I have only slightly more money than brains) So I ordered a 2001 for MSRP from carsdirect.com. The only problem is that they keep changing their mind on when the truck will be delivered.

First it was October...then November...but I heard that SVT is a December through June production run only...

Does anyone have the truth?

SVT_Wannabe...any news on the 2001 L that you ordered?

Hey there!

I'd suggest you don't hold your breath on a delivery date. My dealer has been silent as of yet, but I will check for the status myself today from work and let you know what I find. I've got an 'inside' line to Ford's order status line.

Later..
James

Job #1 (production begins) is on 12.5.00, so it looks like it'll be some time yet to take delivery on an 01 L

From what I've seen, it should start on 12/04, and is showing a material hold until they schedule them. From what I understand, they still are not sure if they will have good intercoolers.

My dealer in San Francisco claims productions starts in December, BY COLOR. All reds are made, then black, then, silver, etc.....So, delivery will be sporatic starting in mid January thru February. So, even if you placed one of the first orders for an '01, which I did in September, does not guarantee my order to be first delivered. You just have to be patient.

Yikes!
I've ordered a "white" one.
Guess I'll be the last one on the block to
turn the key!

Should have bought Red. It's the fastest color. That's why they build them first. They always want the fastest trucks on the street first for positive feedback.

I'm in the market for a new Lightning (I was in an accident with my 2000 and I just learned today that it was totaled).

Should I wait for the 2001 or pick up a 2000?

What is the difference b/w the two?

Thanks!

Jim

The 2001 will have 20 more HP, new tale lights, grill and clear front corners, plus new wheels. A few months ago, pics of the new 2001 were posted. should not take much effort to find them. Good Luck

What kind of deals are you folks getting? Are you going to pay MSRP, something less or something more?

Thanks for the info. The gearing should help acceleration quite a bit. Hmmm. Can I wait until January to take delivery?

Jim,
DO a little searching, I think the rims on the 2001 are UGLY, but I'm still buying one. Worse comes to worse I'll spend a grand to get stock 2000 rims. My Dealer is saying around the first of the year to get an 01.

But ya never know with Ford.

Sold the 99.5 Lightning.. wait on a 2001!

Injection is nice, but I'd rather be blown. Lightning, the best of both worlds!

I put $500.00 down on a 01 back in Sept. Dealer said production date was Dec.5 with delivery end of Jan. Paid MSRP 31,900...They tried to get a grand over...didnt work
Been hearing owners complain about intercooler problems. Hope FORD takes care of it. I faxed SVT my concerns.
This is my first Ford truck. Looks like perfect Truck if they would solve a few problems.(Clunk & intercooler)
Cant wait to drive it!

As I did last year for the 2000 folks, I will check the Oakville plant out and get my friend to let me in on the aft-time shift. I live fairly close to the plant and I will take a bunch of photos. These will be posted when they start coming out so those on order can get an idea as to when they will be getting their beasts. I will start checking in December.
