Post R9 good for how many more HP?

Can someone explain approximately how much increased HP will you get with: 1) just a superchip, 2) superchip w/airaid, 3) superchip, filter and MAF. Thanks.

Can't tell you for sure about the R9, but I have done some decent dyno tuning with my truck using different chips.

Stock, the truck made 328rwhp and ran 13.95 @ 99.8mph against a slight headwind.

With just the old Superchip (not R9)it made 345rwhp and ran 13.65 @ 101 against a slight headwind. I have since run the PSP chip and now a JL chip. Haven't dyno'd the JL chip, but its certainly as good as the PSP chip...at least my butt-meter and kill ratio reflect that.

Since then I have added a PSP filter/inlet tube kit and have never run slower than 13.3x, with almost every pass in the 13.20 @ 103+ on stock tires in less than ideal conditions (read: N. Texas heat). I also have a TransGo shift kit, but that will not increase power, per se. See sig for latest power numbers.

At sea level or in very good air, I firmly believe the truck would run 13.0x @ 105+.

Just have the JL single program "street" chip. I do not race the truck at the strip often at all. I've had it for 16 months, and have put less than 10 passes on it...just to give you an idea of how little I "competitively" drag race it. Thus, I really don't have use for a "track only" program which will require 100+ octane unleaded.

HI meiwah,

The R9 Superchip alone will add anywhere from 40 to 44 hp at the flywheel. The Airaid kit adds 18 hp added either to the stock Lightning or the Superchipped Lightning, the figure didn't vary by as much as 2 hp. The reduction in restriction helps to make more boost when you install the Airaid unit, so it's gains tend to stay.

The Pro-M 80MM MAF used with the Superchip made no additional power over what the Superchip alone made, well, 2 hp @ 5000 rpm. Now if you bolt a Pro-M onto a bone-stock Lightning, you will pick up some power due to the Pro-M unit leaning out the A/F ratio by up to 2 full points, but as soon as that is compensated for in the program so the engine can run safely without being too lean, that gain instantly disappears.

If you'd like to go over this in detail, please feel free to give us a shout, our contact info is just below.

Thanks Mike; very informative. My '01L is due in January; will email you shortly thereafter regarding what chip to put in. From the past board, it was recommended that the chip, MAF and filter all be done at once. Do you agree? Or is piece-meal okay?

I went to Great Lakes Dragaway's website & punched in My trucks weight in the HP calculator, heres what I came up with. (not actual dyno) 4760# with me, 413 rear wheel HP = 13.15 @ 103.5. Crank HP = 537! My actual time slip: 13.15 @ 103.09 Dead on with the ET & MPH. This was in 50 degree, 30% humidity, 30.4 baro. (GREAT WEATHER) R9 & Airaid only mods. Lloyd
