Stupid Question
At what milage should I start using synthetic oil? I have always done an oilchange between 500to 1000 miles on all my new cars with regular oil and started synthetic once they hit 3000 miles. I have a little over 600 on my L now. Someone once told me if my pistons haven't properly seated by 500 miles, they will never seat properly. This is the first ford product I have ever bought so I am not really familliar with their characteristics.
Ps. I bought it out of state and the dealer forgot to give me an owners manual so they had to order one and I am still waiting for it.
Thanks,
Darryl

Everybody has an opinion on this one. When I had a '96 Impala SS I changed to synthetic at 3000 miles. From then on at 2000 miles it used about a pint of oil without fail. I don't know if it's because it was an LT1 or because I changed to synthetic so soon. On my Lightning I waited until 5750 miles and so far it hasn't used a drop. Coincidence? Who knows. Just remember that several manufacturers ship with Mobil 1 right from the factory. My final opinion? It's totally your call .

As I was browsing the FAQa under Transmissions it said "our transmissions are filled with Mercon V" According to my owners manual it says the 4R100 is filled with Mercon and has a big bold print paragraph about not using Mercon V in a tranny using Mercon.
