Post Hey fellows, blown engine story from LS1.com

http://206.139.32.21/ls1forum/Forum16/HTML/001497.html

He said it looked like they blew their engine.

I also want to know how fast they were going when he dropped it in 4th and pulled away like he says he did.

Just thought I should post it here...

Unhappy

The LS1 driver claims " i heard a boom and the whole "CAR" shook"
a blown engine is usually not that dramatic, unless running nitromethane, as to shake the "CAR" in the other lane. so i'm thinking maybe it was a heat seeking missle, or RPG or somethin, like that, so i guess the rest of us can relax.

I call BS on that one. Sorry. I have a hard time believing much of that story. He must've been doing over 100mph to begin with to drop it into 4th. My brother's '99 Ram-Air T/A will do 108mph in 3rd gear (verified at the track).

Assuming he ran it out for 10 seconds or so, certainly he would beat an L at those types of speeds.

Blowing an engine up? I doubt it. Maybe the L shifted into OD at 140mph and it did the classic WOT shift-fart? Shook the car? Those F-bodies must be made out of tin or lightweight plastic.

that story is the biggest bunch of BS i have ever heard.....first off a anniv vert took a new L by 8 lengths??? (doubt that) second, he was going 80 and deciding to race he "dropped it into 4th"? i would have dropped the vette into 3rd at that speed.

There is something else wrong with that story.

Everyone here knows you can't fit three people in a Lightning!

I always get a kick out of these kill stories.. I guess it is only natural.. I remember the first time I took my 87 Grand National to the track. I was matched up with a nitrous fed mustang that had been running 11.0's all night.. Well.. When I ran him.. he missed a gear and just coasted the rest of the track.. I got the win.. and Yes.. I talked all kinds of **** telling people how I beat an 11 sec Mustang.. I was young and foolish.. I did not know any better..

What about the Lightning's rev limiter?

Many of the guys who post on ls1.com are nothing more than "rich plano kids". I talk from experience, I just moved from Plano. One problemo..I am 42..I quite never got their drift...I $uck with them all of the time though..when extremely bored....check ls6.com..if you really want to puke...IMHO this Lightning sites members are light years ahead of those unruly child... john

whitelightnin'...

I know what you mean. I live up in Allen, so I see it all the time, too. The new LS1 F-body is the same car to these younger people that the Fox-3 Mustang ('87-93 5.0) was back in its day...except a late model LS1 is substantially more expensive, even with inflation factored in over time.
