I just bought a 2000 lightning 3 months ago and raced it with 400 miles on it. It baselined at 14.20 with the tailgate down and tonneau cover rolled up at 97.2 mph.
In short it felt like a sled. I was horrified being that I had a 99 with 3000 miles on it last year that I drove in right off the street with more gas in it, tailgate up and it was a hot engine. It ran 13.87 at 100.40 By the end of that night it ran
13.67 at 101.07. I was shocket at the spped to say the least. I never tou;ched the engine on that 99' black scorcher and by the last weekend in October it ran. 13.16 at 102.80 with a 1.91 60 ft. I was thrilled.

I almost took my 2000 back after running low 14's for 3 track outings. Well, I bought a SHM chip, pulley and Pro-M maf and if it didn't run mid -13's I was going to trade it in. My first outing with that combo was
a 13.41 at 104.3. THat was more like it!
In 2 outings I was able to whittle that down
to a 13.10 at 105.33 and 4 out of five runs were over 105. Are the 99 trucks faster stock in general than the 2000 trucks?

well i'm not an expert but I heard from the guy I got my chip from that in 2000 the lightnings come with the cux2 computer and this has a differrent code to make the truck better for emissions. If this is true then I think just putting a chip in would solve the problem. I do believe that the 2000 is a little bit slower cause I raced a 2000 with the chip and his had no bed cover and tailgate down. I got two hundred pounds of stereo in mine plus bed cover and a half a tank of gas and I beat him by about 2 tenths. But I'm not a expert.

Don't know but can tell you this. It was my friend's new '99 L that made a Chevy guy (me) turn Ford and buy mine. His was a freakin' rocket with 600 miles on it, pushing the boost gauge well into the black in stock form. Mine has never seen black and will probably never be as strong as that one.

So it might not be my imagination. I could
hot track my 99' black lightning all night and with a 2.00 to a 2.05 sixty foot with the F1's and it would run 13.54- 13.63 all night no cool down at all. Stock, I should have kept that 99'. Oh well

Ya but the 2000 has that compass on it. and another oh sh*t handle. Wonder If I could put that compass in mine 99? there's another project. Whatever you do don't get a 2001, personally I think those rims would look better on a off road truck.

Gotta love that Oh sh*t handle! lol Well, you can have mine if it's loss will make my '00 run like that white '99 does. And yeah, those wheels suck in my opinion. Good thing the '01 is already quick, cuz I'll bet wheels just might be a first mod for many.

Never actually saw it work, just assumed it was a compass. I would rather have a compass anyway I think. Altough a thermomater might be good to. Sorry about the confusion. no matter how it works I like it and I want one. But then again I want everything thats why my Visa bill said thank you in big bright red letters. Roger love's me I think. He keeps on e-mailing me with all the new toys he gets. 20 inch rims and tires next I think. there's five grand. roger if you read this I don't mean that love stuff in a Butt pirate kind of way. I love women. But not as much as the L. thats one reason I always single. Hey any girls live on the south side of chicago that can live with be second in life next to the L. I would say NO

My reason is:
The 99's have miles on them and performance is at their peak. The 2000's do not have many mailes on them.

L's at 3000 miles seem to get a boost in performance. Then at about 5000-6000 miles another boost in performance is noticed. When the mileage hits about 10,000-11,000 miles, L's once againt seem to gain in performance. my gut feeling is that when they hit that 11,000 mile mark, L's are running as fast as they can go without adding some performance mods.

my 99' with probably 15,000 miles at this point on it then I could have possible owned a 12 second stock lightning on the stock radials. Oh well, My 00' only has 1880 miles
on it right now. I have a long fun way to go

When does it start to go down hill from there cause I just reached 23,000 on mine and seems faster. Got a new supercrew for work truck but I just can't help to not drive my baby. she make's everything so much more fun. Even with the tickets.

4D THNDR & RTKILLA I'm confused - mine has BOTH the compass and the thermometer. Is there some mid - year change or something?

FORDSALES - Good to hear mine will 'wake up' AGAIN in another 3,500 miles.(the 10k mark) The '99 I referred to must have been a fluke. It was stronger at 600 miles stock than my '00 is chipped at 6,500 miles. No kidding.

I doubt the 99's are quicker thana 2000. You have to put some miles on it before it runs srong.
