Just Received my new plates & don't want to ruin the look & front bumper by placing it on. Wondering how many have & have not. I don't know how much they care about it in CA. Just worried about what I could be doing in the truck at the time if I only get stopped for that.

 

I have not installed and if you look around, many, many other makes and modles have neither

I caught my dealer just as they were getting ready to poke holes in the front for the plate. In Ohio it's mandatory to display both plates. I keep my front one under the seat. Then, if I get stopped, I'll just throw it up in the windshield and play real stupid like, "There's no place up front to hang it." Course, that's if I'm outta county or state. The local guys know I'm not about to drill holes in my bumper and let it go at that.

Hi people. i wouldnt put the front plate on either if i had a lightning. i have owned my 97 Camaro SS for almost 3 years and have never had it on. it looks horrible on a car like mine and i havent gotten a ticket ever either. once though, me and all my friends with their fast cars were all hanging out at a local 7-11, we all had our cars backed in, which made it real easy for a cop to pull in, and see no front plates on any of our vehicles. this is when i said UH OH!! he asked for all of us to give him our paperwork, but none of us got tickets for no plate. as far as im concerned, im never putting it on, and wouldnt on a lightning either!! some vehicles today are just way too nice to ruin the frontend look with a stupid plate. later all Mike

 

I never put mine on either. Didn't want to drill any holes. Course when the officer couldn't prove how fast I was going, he wrote me a ticket for no front plate. Still haven't put it on.

IN jersey they require a front plate. its the LAW. yea right I would not deface the front of my L with a stupid nj plate. police see me all the time and do not bother me. I stick the plate in the front window by that beautiful nj inspection sticker. 95rcobra.

Man.......i'm glad North Carolina doesnt have a front plate law to worry about. Not that i'd run one anyways

So far:
95 Cirrus--dealer 'ruined' front bumper by plate install during delivery BUT, after my complaint,they contracted a repair person to plug holes and repaint.

95 Mustang V6, 97 Cobra, and 2000 L, asked dealer not to install plate OR dealer stickers. No Problems.
Learned on the first one I guess!

 

I figured nobody put on the fronts. I just wasn't sure if cops would really pull you over just for that. There are alot of intersections that have cameras in the city, & I believe the picture is of the front of the car, so thats why I thought they may target people w/o fronts.
What I really want to avoid is being pulled over & getting a background check.(I am sure alot of you know what I mean)

 

I specifically told my salesman to make sure it didn't get put on. I live in a state where it is "required". A year and a half of ownership...no front plate, no ticket, never been pulled over.

I did the L front bumper on my wife's '00 Expedition...no front plate on that, either!!!

Massachusetts has gotten tough on front plates since new inspection system about a year ago. Dealers won't pass vehicles w/o front plates. If caught by RMV, can suspend or lose inspection priviledges. Anyone in MA have any luck getting by w/o?

 

It is the law here to have front plate also. Don't have one and no problems so far. Have only seen a couple of L's with plate on. Steve

 

Hey SS Guy, Yes, I do have a 95 r model and absolutely love this car. it is a real trip to drive. I had a 93 r model also but it just was not a drivable car on the streets of new jersey. good for the road course track. sold the 93r and bought the red 2000 lightning earlier this year. no regrets. it was also the featured 93r model in the SVT mustang cobra recognition guide. I live up in Vernon Sussex county but work down by you in Fairfield near the Airport. What color is your lightning and which dealer did you get it from? yea we should get together and I could bring you over to meet my friend Pat Barrett over at Level 10 and see if you want to do do some work on you lightning. He has done some great work on my truck so far but I am not intending on racing it. it actually will be towing my 95 r to shows and road course tracks like watkins glen. thanks. later 95rcobra.
