Need Help To Silent My Longtube Headers :

Hi guys, i have a set of customized Dynatech Longtube headers with a Magnaflow 14386. The magnaflow 14386 has an X-Pipe inside. Unfortunately the system makes a lot more noise than i expected and it's almost impossible to speak inside the cabin.

My plan was to install 2 dynomax bullet before the magnaflow 14386 but i heard that the dynomax bullets almost do not reduce sound.

Any comment will be trully appreciated,
thanks.

Actual system:

Plan to reduce noise:

What size tips? You may be able to run the Bassani slip in baffles. Contact Mark at LFP for more info.

While your running no cats at this point thats an option as well by running a high flow cat mid pipe you'll turn the volume down and shouldn't give up a ton of power, Jim's recommendation of the Bassani baffles is also a solid option.

I understand that the cats will do more to suppress noise than "more" muffler.

Good luck,

How you guys didn't see the cats ?? There are 2 high-flow cats, one on each side of the headers.

I have kooks longtubes with the larger magnaflow muffler
and its not that loud - I did get the muffler replaced a while back because it split and it had lost packing

My high flow magnaflow cats are empty but I dont think they make much difference

Make sure your headers are tight and all the connectors are tight - its pretty common for the collector gaskets to be loose or burn out

Sorry. The pic you posted may not come up as clearly on different monitors. It's hard to see those cats in the posted pic.

Rather than add a second muffler each side, perhaps you could substitute a larger (longer) muffler on each side as another option. You may be able to find the appropriate product more easily than trying to fit something into a reduced space.

You've got a great truck and incredible engine build. You've got the perseverence to get this little thing right, that's for sure.

Good luck,

Lee (an underpowered lowly 5.4 3V )

I had small baffles (maybe 9" long) installed on my truck and it helped quiet it down.

From engine to exhaust tip:

Bassani headers, Custom Mid-pipes, Hiflow cats, Baffle, then MAC Catback. I had the baffles installed before the cat back and after the HI Flow cats. Since my headers were shorty's, I had more roon before the 90* bend on the drivers side. I had the drivers side installed on that piping perpendicular to the frame, and the passenger side between the cat and the Muffler.

Just drove about 700 miles with the basically same setup , head ache for sure ! Couldn't hear the tunes or my buddy talking ! Even worse when you have a Lexan rear window !! I'm just waiting to get stop in town because its so loud , but officer , the harleys are loud too ~~

I've got the cats in , long tubes and it is a sweet sound ........... for about 10 minutes .

Gives everyone within a 1/2 mile a clue that a badazz L is coming though

This is what Magnaflow told me when I was choosing a muffler... quote"12568 is identical to 14568 but with a satin finish. Both mufflers have an X Pipe built into it and are one of the quietest mufflers Magnaflow offers" end quote

Why not put the stock muffler back on? i lost power with a Magnaflow catback. The stock muffler flows a lot of air and is quiet. Should sound really nice with long tubes and high flow cats. and be quiet in the cab!
