Arrow Cowl vs. Ram air hoods

is there any performance to be gained from either of these hoods. People with either. . .what do you think of them. Post some pics. I am trying to decide.

Thanks
Dave

There are a ton of pictures of hoods and info. on this board. Do a "search" and you'll find them.

I like both, I have the ram-air.

Performance gains? Maybe but they are also a lot heavier than the stock aluminum hood.

Hey Jim,

I am in the middle of the search now, I just wondering if there might be some new stuff out there.

BTW: love the hitch cover.

There are a lot of great hoods. I keep looking at them and thinking to myself, yes I want one but I know it will end up costing me about $900.00.

I really don't think you'll have any performance increase for the mod. Do it only because you like it.

If you think the Lightnings get a lot of looks now, try one with a ram-air hood. It went from around a 15% rubberneck factor to about 50%.

Try adding billet grills with chromed SVT rims and 3/4 inch lowering kit. This Bolt stops traffic, I feel like the EL Presidento
when I'm driving down in Latinoville. I have to pick my spots carefully here in OKC,OK because this is CHEVY country and they don't
like these awesome Lightnings.

there is a performance gain w/ ram air hoods b/c they bring in more air. I don't remember the numbers but you don't get the gain until 45mph. but you have to make sure the hood you are buying can be made functional.

TampaBayL,
have you talked to Cervini?? I called them last week and they said they were redesigning the functional kit. looks like another couple of months.

Mark2kL -
I see that you're from Washington.
Did it break your heart to impale your front bumper with the licence plate?
I'm getting a 2001 in a few months and I'm gonna push my limits with the WSP and try it with out the plate for as long as I can.
I put the plate on my Cobra and really wish I hadn't, because I see so many others not obeying the rule that it makes me think, hey, why not?

LOL, I have another excuse to post this PIC of my truck. In my opinion,You can gain a little with a cowl hood. I have had my cowl close to a year now, and not until the event in Norwak OHIO, was I informed by PFA that removing the plastic cover over the radiator it will help cool the motor. Well, thiis was fine on a stock hooded truck, but all that extra air that thats now entering was just "trapped" in the engine compartment.

With the Cowl Induction hood, I actually take advantage of that extra air entering the oversized grilles to cool my motor, but mainly the blower itself, and it shoots right back out the back of the cowl.Think about it.....all that entering our grilles has to go somewhere....RIGHT? With a stock hood....it'd trapped

I can now actually go out and terrorize the highways with my beast for hours, return home and the blower and upperintake are still cool to the touch.

As for temperature differences.....my upper intake is now 40 degrees cooler that with the stock hood. And late at night when its cold.....its too cold to touch.. Honest

Now one of my big secrets is out LOL just remember where you guys heard it first See ya' round

So yes, in my opinion a COWL hood does have a performance advantage.

Nice hood, I really like it. By the way do you have a side view of the truck with the cowl hood?
