Post What Is The Best Paint To Use To Paint My Calibers?

I am getting ready to paint my calibers and was wondering what is the best paint to use? Is it better to spray or brush paint the calibers? Lastly what color should I go with on a silver L with the factory wheels? I was thinking about some shade of blue?

I just did mine about two weeks ago with the VHT spray paint and it turned out great. I haven't used a brush on before so I don't know. I would go with a blue on a silver L.

I'm going to post a follow up to this, because I've never done it... HOW do you paint the calipers?

I saw a post set on one of the message boards about removing the calipers, but how do you exactly go about doing this? Do you have to bleed the breaks and all that stuff? Do you just lay the caliper on some paper and srpay it up? I'm kinda clueless about it.

Well, the .30 calibers look really cool in a kind of a brassy color, but not too bright.

.50 calibers, on the other hand can be done up really nice, especially the tracer variants. Yellow, black, green and blue come to mind.

Ahhh. to heck with it. Sorry, man could not resist.

shoot, Murray beat me to it.
I would say, though, that a lot depends on the muzzle velocity. if you're using the high velocity rounds you may need to go with the powder coating, or even chrome plating.

Wink

Nothing like a high caliber bullet proof coating in a nice gun metal gray. Maybe some bullet holes, in the rotor. Oops I think that they call that cross drilling.

Exclamation

do what I did, just use a lot of newspaper to tape off the parts you dont want to get painted. I just removed the tire, taped up the rest including all the part around the wheel well. Worked like a charm!

Hankfan:

Sorry, buddy, just playing with you.

Go to the search field, type in caliper painting just like that.

TybeeC5 has a thread from November a year ago that will tell you all you need to know, paint/technique/clear coating and so on.

There were four posts under that search criterea and most all will be helpful.

Happy New Year
