Post Who had crate motors?

I've come across a restorable 73 Mach 1 and a little light in my head wants to explore putting a lightning drivetrain in it. How much did a crate 5.4 S/C run nad where did you get one? Does anyone know if it will even fit?

Thanks,

G

nytling92,

Now that's pretty. And impressive what all is included in that $3,500 price.

I think I just ahd an orgasm.
The killer is, I just know that if you wanted the supercharger alone it would run over $3,000, so that's a killer deal.

So, any comments on whether I can fit it in a 73 Mustang?

Thanks,
G

I had one, purchased it from that Ford dealer in Mo. that had a bunch for sale a year or so ago. Paid $4000 plus $250 freight.
Kept it for a year and sold it in Nov. to a local who wanted to put it into a Roushed '99 Supercab.
He, in turn, found a slightly used L for a very good price and was trying to sell the motor several weeks ago back to me. I declined as I had no further use for it.

I got $4500 for mine, and that just covered my expenses plus interest.
There are several threads on this subject if you do the search thingie. Lightning crate just like that will get you a lot of info.

E-mail me if your interested.

High Risk, good to hear from you. I'm not at the buying point yet, still trying tio figure out what I want to do, but if I get there I'll prolly take that motor. I can swing up thast way and save the shipping if nothing else, we can spend a night ast the races maybe.
I got a question for you, are y'all taking an extra week off next month?, and was it scheduled for the re-tooling or is it a flat out volume thing like the media says? I had thought you were taking a down week to put in new machines for the live axle etc....We're not getting anythnig about a slowdown down here, but I'm in major repair and that prolly wouldn't affect me anyhow, we always have a few laying around that need rebuilt.

Greg,
Yes, Production is going to be off the week of the 8th. They said they are projecting sales to be down with the slowing economy. We've been doing alot of retooling since summer shut down for the new body style. It's going to be a total redo, new frame, new body, same modular motor with the addition of a baby deisel. I've got some pictures of the independent rear suspension but I'm a little nervous about posting them.
I thought about putting that motor in my Mustang but I need another toy like I need a hole in my head. Let me know maybe we could meet in Columbus.
