new lightning or new WS-6

a ws-6 is a badass sports car which would take a Lightning, sorry guys, my choice is T/A, its so fast, and with a couple simple mods, you'lll be runnin 12's, and it looks bad ***, but i guess the L would get more attention cuz its more rare, i see ws-6 alot, not too many L, and even fewer R/T's!

does anyone have the info on the project lightning they are doing in "Muscle Mustang" magazine? the did ram air, chip, mass air, cat-back, and am not sure what else, but it is well into the 12's. that is all minor bolt on items and if you did a 75-100 shot of NX on top of that you are low 12's on slicks...that's pretty darn fast for about $1,500 in mods. .02

I've got both also, sorta. My '99 Firebird Formula, LS1, M6 w/ Hurst, isn't a WS6, but it's pretty close. I agree with others who have said it depends on what you want. Bone stock to bone stock I'd give a very small edge to the F body. With a chipenfilter the L. is definitely quicker than the stock F body. Both take to mods well. If you've gotta have a manual tranny the WS6 wins. If you gotta haul or tow stuff the L. wins. Overall, I find the L. more comfortable, but I'm pretty long legged (6'2", 185#). The monsoon stereo is definitely better than the L.'s, and the stereo controls in the steering wheel are really nice. Each has advantages and disadvantages, so I could go on and on, but bottom line is do you want a car or a truck.

Depends on how you are...
I like my Dakota because of the sleeper look... (Dodge dont have a stock 13 sec truck)
WS6:
My bro has his 99 T/A (auto tranny) running 12.84@108, and with some firestone firehawk or what ever tires, he's able to take a 25MPH on-ramp that I can take in my truck ~45 at 70 MPH w/o even makin the tires squeel
Mods: Hypertech, underdrive pully, whisper air lid... (his is not a WS6, but put the WS6 hood on it)
Lightning:
Damn impressive as hell trucks from the factory, throw in a chip, filter, maybe one or 2 more small mods, yer in the 12's as well.. (provided you can hook up) I know I've never ridden in an L, but I'm sure they dont have the brakes or handle quite as well as the WS6, but its hella better than most stuff!
My dakota: Sleeper, goes pretty fast in a straight line, wanna go faster
You have to ask your self, do I want a big truck that hauls ***, or do I want a Car that goes fast?
Just my $3.18

Look at this way. What are your needs? If it is just performance only, buy the WS-6 and run the risk of being embarrased by a modded truck. Or buy the L and get outrun by a modded WS-6 which isn't nearly as embarrasing IMHO. Regardless of what you buy there will be someone quicker, but it won't be GTP's or Durango's.
Either one will be a barrel of fun.

I don't know whatb the deal is with some of these responses, but here's my opinion...
The L will take the holeshot and 0-30 7 outta 10 times... The auto is just too easy too launch compared to the M6, and the TA auto is that much slower.
So stop light to stop light, the L is the winner. There is an informal car club here in Bryan/College Station, and out of 5 or so TA owners, all of us agree. The L takes the holeshot. Somewhere between 40 and 50, the TA stops loosing ground, but is 1 to 2 cars back... Around 65-75 he pulls even, and then pulls ahead slowly until about 90 when he's probably at 100-105 and walks away. I've done this with these guys who had various mods from simple to extremes... the results are roughly the same. Throw mods on the L and the results get wild!
Top end, from a 20-40 roll, and ANY race that goes to 90-100... Well... the TA wins...
I like the comparison made above by Y2K...
Don't fool yourself on the braking issue... I haven't competed with an LS1 on this issue, but 13" discs are gonna be hard to beat. I've NEVER had mine fade...

Hey 95vortech (Vortec?)- To really make up your mind - go talk to your insurance rep - you will be amazed at the cost! I have seen several Camaro/Firebirds in crash tests - NO THANK YOU - 5000lbs of metal with a frame that moves at 140+ mph - now that's exclusive only to the Lightning! Oh yeah - you can haul things with it.

I just read the article in MM&FF at the drug store (too bad my memory isn't better, buts thats how us seniors get) and what they did was take the Cervini ram air hood off, and install a Johnny Lightning ram air kit and the latest Superchip flip chip. They put lighter front wheels on, and I'm sure they were running drag slicks. I don't know what, if any, other mods the truck has, but with the chip set to the race program and some 100 octane in the tank the truck ran low 12.50s. I personally could care less, I am only interested in how a truck does in a street configuration, but once I get my t.b. and crank pulley I expect to be very close to 12's on the F1s.

Haved owned two Trans Ams, and still have a third. Two are 455 CIDs, one a High Output, which I still have.
I would not trade any of them for my 1999 Lightning. To me it is really something neat about sitting up truck high in a vehicle that performs as well, or near as well, as most performance cars. The visibility all around is great.
And, in an accident I would much rather be in a 4670 lb. truck than any car.
I may be going a bit over-board, but I consider the Lightning currently to be the ultimate road warrior from the factory.
