Yes, thanks Jim. Have you done this mod yet? If so, with K & N also? Have you experienced any problems with your I/C leaking yet? I feel lucky as I have not had any problems with my truck.

jstovall,

Well, one would think from my earlier posts about this that I would have jumped on it immediately. My two little girls have hampered my wrench turning so to speak but I love them dearly and the truck can wait.

Anyway, yes, last weekend I went to Advance auto parts and perused the K&N catalog. There were 3 filters that interested me. One was a screw in replacement for the oil cap, designed for Ford. The other 2 would go on the driver's side valve cover.

The driver's side valve cover has a 5/8" plastic nipple that sticks up. K&N makes a 2" wide x 1.5" tall filter that has a female, rubber hole 5/8" in diameter that would stick right on that nipple. Part # is 621340. Advance can't get it, but I'm sure Summit Racing can. The only drawback is the plastic wire loom for the left bank fuel injectors would have to be released from the valve cover stems and pushed back a little. But, IMHO, I think it would look clean, non-homemade and low-profile once done.

I did order the male filter which has the same dimensions, but requires a 5/8" bit of hose to complete the installation. The good thing about that one is that it comes apart so you can clean it periodically. It's either part # 621495 or 621110. Sorry, because one of those is for the screw in filter for the oil fill, and I didn't write down which was which.

PS 8,400 trouble free miles except the clunk which I fixed myself.

Ted Russell Ford on Kingston Pike installed my new valve cover. They were very helpful in TRYING to solve the problem. Heck, they even called SVT can you believe that? SVT told them it was the baffle in the valve cover causing the oil to suck into the intake tube. But that replacement did not solve the problem. gforce had it right all along, the s/c has so much suction under wot it just pulls oil out of that side of the motor. Like I said earlier in the post the fix is a 5-10 minute job once you have the parts in front of you. Everyone had better wake up & take care of this problem themselves because the dealers aren't going to.

Thumbs up

Hey gforce - that's the K&N P/N - 621340 - I used - Summit has them - chrome tops in stock - plain rubber top had to be ordered. Best idea is to order 2 - that way one can be cleaned while the other is on the truck.
The filter works great!

Cruiser,

That one looks best of all. I thought Summit would have it or could get it.

beechwood,

No, Advance couldn't get that either. I'm willing to bet 1k it won't bother anything. No bad idle or ill effects. Afterall, the PCV valve on ANY engine has very little suction because of the floating valve in it. All it does is slowly suck up combustion gasses for emissions. So, if you were to install the oil cap K&N, that would just take the load off the driver's side K&N which is supplying the fresh air to the crankcase. This way, you'd have 2 inlets of fresh air.

This isn't voodoo stuff here...all we have to do is supply clean, outside air to the crankcase and keep it out of the bellows and off the throttle body. IMHO, this Eaton M112 has a lot of pulling power, and it will get air any way it can to feed the engine. Give it the straw and it will suck on it.

after oiling the filter & cutting the hose down to the correct size, i took the intake boot off and cleaned it and the throttle body with stp throttle body and air intake cleaner.

the K&N filter doesnt come apart to my knowledge..

Question

What do you guys think of just replacing the oil fill cap with the K&N screw in filter. will this alone stop the oil in the bellows? it's a 2sec job and you don't have to mess with the hoses.

BBQ,

No, that alone won't do anything for the oil sucking problem because the oil is coming through that plastic pipe on the driver's side valve cover. The pipe's gotta go to stop it. However, the screw-in filter won't hurt anything and would take some filtering load off the driver's side one. It'd look pretty cool too IMHO.

bob & clonetek: I like that solution for plugging up the hole. Doesn't look bad at all.

I'm not trying to promote any store, but the Hot Rod Barn in Knoxville, TN sold me a chrome K&N oil cap filter for less than $20.00 tax included.

clonetek,

I'm pretty sure the part # for the K&N screw in oil cap breather is 62-1495. It's made just for the Ford engine according to the catalog. I'm thinking around $20 also. Give Summit a call, they probably have it in stock. I'm calling them tonight about that and the 621340 female filter to stick on the nipple of the D side valve cover.
