Question FACTORY TECH GEN 2 TRANNY QUESTION

We just had a guy post that his 2nd gear shifts were getting really sloppy and his tranny "expert" said it was because he was doing his burnouts in 2nd gear. Hes got 25K on his truck. I've got 32K on mine and do my burn outs in 2nd gear. Is this harder on the tranny than doing them in drive? My tranny runs fine.

Thumbs down

First of all, unless you have a stickshift and very stiff gears you should never do a burnout in 2nd gear. The proper way would be to start the burnout in first, to get some tire speed and then shift into second and let the vehicle pull itself out of the water box. My guess is, you could possibly hurt the trans by putting an unnecessary load on the trans.

the only "special" knowledge I have about second gear is that when the tranny is in 2L "manual 2ed gear) is the only time the band is applied, and this would put a lot of stress on that band. My own opinion is I would NEVER do a burnout in 2L, it just doesn't seem natural to me.

Thanks for the replies. FACTORY TECH are you also saying to do them in 1st? I started out doing them in Drive.
noel

PS Talked with my gurus today and they recommended doing burnout in 1st and shifting to 2nd when it gets going good.

If you look at the date of this post it is February 12. I have no idea why its showing up now. At the time I asked it, I don't believe it had been asked before because I have been on this board a long time and I read every post every day and if it had been covered before I would have remembered it because I have a pornographic memory.

Yea, I looked at his profile, no truck, no job, no location and in his last post he was looking for a bra. Must be one of those weirdos from the coast.

For what it's worth, I still wouldn't do burnouts in second gear.

Hey Caka think we could setup a blind date and get them on TV!

over here we have a lightning owner who has to much time on his hand to play on the computer. His turn offs include being asked the same question more then once, and people who mock him. His turn on's are star trek the warth of kahn and his truck.

Lets meet his date for tonight!

He's a jobless wanna be lightning owner looking for a companion that can meet his needs. His turnoffs are the being asked the same question more then once and thats about it. His turn ons are endlessly searching for a place to live.

So lets see if he's our stud, or are dud for the day!
