Post Toyo tires 295/45r18

see

http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_lines.../specs/st.html

or search for "toyo proxes s/t" I have no idea how much they are. I wonder if one of us could become a dealer and by 25 sets or whatever it would take to get a great price.

I just called my local Toyo dealer and he quoted me $1201.97 for 4 tires-OTD. That puts them somewhere around $250 each considering they will be mounted, balanced, and taxes paid. The diffenences are as follows:

They are "V" speed rating-not too bad.
The treadwear rating is 420-much better than the F1's.
The traction is "A"- not sure what the F1's are.

They look like a viable alternative to me. I've got less than 14K on my F1's and they are almost toast.

The F1 traction rating is AA. You can buy the Totos by mail order for $200 each, plus shipping. To get them to Texas I was quoted a price of $840 (including shipping) for 4. I can get them mounted and balanced locally for $40, so I'm looking at $880 for the whole ball of wax. Jerry Jordan has had a set on his L. for about two weeks now, and at last report really liked them.

Question

Moonshine,
Where did you find them for $200? That's the best deal so far. The traction isn't QUITE as important up here at 5000', so I may be willing to sacrifice for some longevity.

Cool

40K? 40K? I'd be ecstatic if I got 20K.
But Azeem, I don't see our tire size at Tradepot.

Alphadoggy,
The web site doesn't list our size, but if you call the toll free number they do stock them in 295/45VR18.

Dreamin', I had that coming. No sweat.

Alpha,
I called and they said they had a bunch and would let them go for $205 per plus shipping. I think he said he was in Atlanta, so shipping for me to Colorado would be $24 each. Add mounting, balancing, subtract savings in local/state taxes this option was still $200 cheaper than my local Toyo Dealer.

I had Toyo Z rated tires on my little Ford ZX2. They were great tires, I loved the unidirectional threads and they did great on wet roads. I had the speed limiter removed on the little car and I went up to 190km/h with it once with the Toyo tires (190 not much? Well it is with a ZX2 haha)

The tires didn't last more than 15,000 kms with me, that's only 9320 miles!!!!!!!!! ALL 4 TIRES! I didn't spin the car very much, I think it looks stupid on a FWD car to spin!
I did take curves pretty fast so maybe that's why they didn't last very long! The car was brand new at the time also!

So be prepaired to change the tires often if your a speed freak!

So the Toyo tires are going to last 50,000, whereas the stock Goodyears are only going to last 20,000? Am I correct?

You might 50K if you drive like a little old lady (no offense to the lead-footed little old ladies). But at 420-440 tread rating, you should at LEAST get 40K I would think.

FYI, I was told that thread wear and traction rating are *not* compariable across different tire manufactures. So I wouldn't be surprised if the Toyo doesn't last twice as long as the F1's.

All else equal, there is always a trade off between traction and tire life. The F1's are not great on either, but a reasonable compromise IMO.
