Post Roush F-150 Stage 1

I was wondering what you guys think of this "package"? Im looking to buy a truck in the next few months. But I want something different. Im thinking about purchasing a roush. 1. Its lowered (better handling better than my mustang) and its looks good. 2. My wife doenst have a problem getting in and out of it. (shes 5' 1"). And all the modifacations are covered under warrenty. What do you guys think?

I too looked in to buying one, but there are no motor mods to make it faster so I did not. It's a nice truck though and the warranty issue is very good. Good luck. They should be coming out this year with a stage 3 which will have a supercharger and be alot faster, so I'm watching for that one also

Sorry i meant to post this in general disscussion. I drove a roush and i liked it very much. Its not faster or slower than a regular f150 with the same motor. Im looking at a stage one which is lowered with wheels na tires. Front bumper cover and a cat back on it. Im mostly going for the lowering part because it improves handling alot. I have a 92 GT stang and the truck handles better than it and almost as good as my wifes miata. As you can see by our cards why we need a truck. Also the stage three is out for 01 all it is is either a 4.6 or a 5.4 ith a super charger on it. Well thanks for the help. And belive me i would get a lightning but i can get into a roush wit ha 5.4 for about 31 and im pretty sure lightnings are a little more than that. Do appreciate it though guys.

Yes, the Lightning is US$1,300 more !?

If you need the extended cab, otherwise...

I don't know anything about the Roush F-150 but if you look around you can get a brand new 00 Lightning for less then 31K. I picked up my Lightning for $27,600 in Aug with 16 miles on it. If you want the L then do some looking around and you will be suprised at some of the prices.

when I bought my Lightning, they had a 4wd stage-1 roush in the lot...so no real engine mods, just pretty looking. It was $7000 more then my Lightning.

Does the lighning come in extended cab. I dont think it does does it? Tahts another reason why im going with the roush. But if the L comes in extended cab im all over that. Does insurence know the diff between an f150 and a L? Thats something else i have to worry about im only 21. My insurence is high enoug with my mustang and my wifes miata i really dont want it to go any higher. If i got the roush its basically a f150 so my insurence will rise about 9 bucks a month. I dont know about the L. Thanks for the info though. Wow thee still a slight chance i might get one just have to talk to wife into it

No extended cab for the Lightning. I thought your only issue was price. Sorry about that.

Thumbs up

The Roush trucks look really nice, but I thought they were kind of high. There were two extended cabs (Stage II...I think) at our dealership in Navasota for a looooong time (black and red). There was some other piece of paper next to the sticker that had the "Roush Option Package" on it and the price was $36K or so. It also said "This is the Roush price and is non-negotiable!" Maybe y'alls are cheaper, though.

As far as insurance, mine didn't go up that much at all and I think the main increase was more due to the value of the vehicle (2K L vs. 91 Bronco). I'm only 22, too.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

DUCK

At the Dealer where I bought my '99 Lightning, they have had one of those Roush's on the lot for many months. I think it is a 2000.

Anyway, I was looking at it one day, when my salesman comes out and asks me why would I be looking at the Rousch when I had a Lightning? Reason for his question was that he had driven the Roush and he pronounced it a "lead sled", and not worth the money. Something like $37K at the time. This is a extended cab, 2WD version.

Also, for a long time they had a 4WD version that was also a declared lead sled and was terrible in the snow with the high performance Toyo tires. They might still have that one too.

I checked the MSRP on the L and its like 31-32 some where in there. And i would really like one it would be nice. Tried to talk my wife into it but she has a valid point were getting rid of my mustang(its the biggest and roomiest car we have the onther car is a miata) (frown) To get the truck. The good thing is itl be my truck. were going with the stage one package the only dif btween the stage one and two is the fact that stage 2 has side skirts tahts the only diff i can find. For the stage one pckage (3" drop 18"wheels and tires exhaust and some small other things like bumper cover floor mats and stickers and badges www.roushperf.com)its $6800. I knwo thats pricey for that but it would cost me a good chunk to do that to the truck my self. and its all covered under warrenty. WONDER HOW HARD IT IS TO PUT A SC ON A 5.4? Well do appreciate it guys take it easy.

351PONY, a Lightning is not just an F150 with a 5.4L and a supercharger. The truck is built to be raced and has all kinds of heavy duty and high performance goodies in it for that purpose. This is engine, transmission, rear-end, brakes, intercoolers (SC and transmission), wheels, tires, etc.

Look at the 2001 press literature. They have a Lightning doing a big, smokey, burn-out. That ought to tell the world something.

Ford SVT, who makes the Lightning and other stuff, sponsors rallys for drag racing, road racing and other events.

Get rid of the Miata, keep the Mustang, and buy a Lightning.
