20" wheels - best source?

Getting tired of my 18" stock rims; they look too small for my '02 L. 3 questions please:

1) do 20" rims make the ride a lot rougher?

2) Will 20" rims fill out a lot better? Or do I have to jump to 22" (which I am hesitant)

3) Can I see some pics of your 20" rims, AND where you got them?

Thanks!

I keep seeing the 2001-2002 style 20" chrome and silver wheels posted on eBay.

Can't speak about the ride, but IMO 20" look perfect with the size wheel wells the L's have.

A few years ago, I had the same questions as you,

While I was researching tires for the 20 inch rims, I found there are not the hugest selection of tires that have the same overall diameter as the stock tires(28.4) and most of them are slightlly narower than the F1's that come on our truck. In my opinion you want to stay as close as you can to the 28.4 overall diameter, and go bigger not smaller if you have to deviate from 28.4 inchs. While being a little narower it isn't a big deal for most people, I like a wide tire.

Most people go for 275/40ZR20's which are the closest overall diameter to the Goodyear F1, ranging from 28.4 to 28.6 inches. The problem with these for me, is they are allmost all about 1/2 narower than the stock 18 inch Goodyears. However a slightlly narower tire in most cases will actually ride a little better that a wide tire, but maybee not handle as good in extreem cornering. Though I bet you would be hard pressed to ever get to the corning limits in normal day to day driving.

I ended up finding two different size tires that gave me the look I wanted. I went with 275/40ZR20's on the front, and 315/35ZR20's on the rear. So now the fronts are 1/2 inch narower than the F1's and the rears are about 1/203/4 inch wider than the F1's. I think this combo looks bad ***, and the narower tire up front, actually reduces the wandering on uneven, or rough roads.

One thing to consider is the width of the wheel you choose. Many 20 inch wheels are only 8 inches wide. My opinion is make sure you get at least a 9 inch wide wheel, or like me 10 inch wide wheels.

Also stay far, far, far away from the Toyo Proxis tires in 20 inch sizes. I ran those on my truck for two years and I hated them. They are just to hard, and ride like crap, and were scary in the rain. I now have Michelin Latitude Tour HP, and while not cheep are so awesome.

Anytime you go with bigger diameter rims, and thus a lower profile tire, the ride will be firmer, and you will really feel potholes a lot more. Though a properlly matches 20 inch tire and wheel will give you a slightlly firmer, but great ride.

In my opinion, I wouldn't go any bigger than a 20 inch rim. If you go to 22 inch wheel, and want to keep the right overall diameter, the profile of the tire will be to small. I know some people will disagree with me, and have good luck with 22's, but I feel 20's are just right.

Here is a pic of my 20's

This pic is with the crappy Toyos, but the stance is the same with my Michelins.
