L vs. Z-28s
Two buds of mine are interested in racing. One has a 95 Z-28 (Manual), purely stock. The other has a 2000 Z-28 SS, purely stock. What should I expect out of my stock 2000 L? A victory? Anything I should do to help my chances?
Thanks.

When my truck was stock and had low mileage (600 miles) I ran a 14.0 the same day that several LT1 F-bodies were running 14.1-14.3. If you're both stock, I'd say you have a slight edge on a LT1 F-body.
My stock '99 Z28 ran 107 mph in the 1/4. On the same track under similar weather conditions, my chip/filtered '00L went 105.91. The Z28 is definately quicker than the Lightning stock. Comparing the timeslips, my stock Z28 ran the last 1/8 of the 1/4 over 1 second quicker than my modified Lightning. The Z28s big problem is traction. The 6 speeds are very hard to launch on stock tires. On the other hand, I've seen a stock automatic LS1 Z28 run a 13.2. In my experience, a stock LS1 Z28 is going to beat a stock Lightning unless the Z28 driver screws up really badly.

'00 Lightning - 13.110 @ 105.91
'92 Stealth Turbo - 13.4 @ 103
'99 Z28 - 13.7 @ 107

Oh yeah, one more thing. An LS1 SS is not any quicker than a base Z28, despite the hp rating on the SS being slightly higher.

I have a '97 Camaro Z28 with the LT-1, 6-Speed, and it is not even close to a match for my L. Sixpipes L would be in the next county before I got started good!!!
I really like the Camaro, but it is really no match --- The L wil win every time with an equal driver!!!
