Post Sand bags in the bed?

I just put 180lbs of sand in the bed (it is in sealed bags ;-) and now the tries won’t break loose from a dead stop or a 1500rmp launch. While my chip is being corrected the truck is stock. Is it a good idea to leave the sand in the bed? Or is it hurting performance more then helping?

Thanks

John

Its a trade off. Wheel spin will cost you more than a tenth. Use the sand to work on your launch technique and then once you have great 60 foot times pull it out and see if you can get close to those 60 fts without it.

Once you have great 60 foot times the extra weight will cost you time on the top end. But if you cant hook up then its a wash.

My friends call my sandbags a mod. I wont leave the house without them. 150lbs, and I have traction problems.

Which would you rather have, confidence in your launch, or top end? Might as well go with our big advantage, the launch.

Been driving all freakin winter with about 300lbs sand and 255/75x16 Goodyear RTS's. Can beak the tires loose with heavy throttle, especially in a turn. Probably due to the skinnier, harder compound RTS's.
Can't wait to lose the winter weight and rubber and start some mods. 893: did you add sand for winter traction or dragstrip?

I added the bags for racing traction. I parked my truck for the winter and only drove it once and a while. It also helped lower the back end a bit :-)
