Ok, lets settle this once and for all!
***Choose your own corner***
In the blue corner, we have a group of young people with nice rides that we might have wanted when we were that young, but could never afford.
In the other blue corner, we have a group of elderly folks who gum their food and vagely remember which peddle to push and always start out a conversaion with 'when I was a kid we walked 5 miles to school...in the middle of the winter...with no shoes...and one wooden leg.'
In this, the last other blue corner not to be confused with just the OTHER blue corner, we have everyone else with a good since of humor who can laugh at the OTHER blue corner, but we always want to know,HOW CAN THOSE KIDS AFFORD SUCH KICKASS TOYS?
So this is what I propose.
What is your age and occupation? What do you drive? Who paid for your truck? Who pays for your insurance? Who paid for all the mods?
Lets TRY to keep it clean with no name calling. If it happens to be that some kid is out there sporting an L that someone else paid for, then don't be mad. I would be envious!! Does everyone understand the rules? ok then LETS GET IT ON!!!
It was a cold, dark night and I was standing on this corner turning tricks and.... wait wrong story.
I'm 26. I drive a 1997 Black F-150 Supercab flareside with a 4.2 V6 and it is a 4x2. I am paying for it with my job as a DB2 V6.1 Database Administrator. My wife won't let me do any really cool stuff to my truck b/c I'm whipped. We are also getting our first house so I have other priorities. My motto is this 'Can't we all just get along?'

32 years old social worker. financed my truck through my bank. I do pay for everything. The thing that hurts me is that I have put $160.oo in gas as of the 16th of this month. I can handle everything else but keeping my truck hydrated is killing me.

This one will be a winner!!
61 years young and always purchased my own cars/trucks/mods/insurance.
But, and a big but, I would bet that until the dot.com revolution of a few years back we would not see as many 18-21 year olds buying on their own not only $30K Lightnings and the like but also not able to afford Vettes and a few other nice expensive vehicles.
"When I was coming up", there were no job opportunities like web page design, software engineer, hardware designer and the like as we have today. You could do a lot of engineering oriented things of course, including working on some of the earlier design computers. But, you had, in general, to have an advanced engineering degree from a "name" College and have a few years experience under your belt.
To make serious money when I was in the 16-25 year old bracket, the only hope you had was to land a Union job. That is not the case today.
Mind you, I take nothing away from these young folks. They are extremely intelligent people and they are riding a wave that I hope continues. My eldest daughter was making $85 an hour last year on a major Atlanta Y2K project just as a project coordinator. She didn't even have to do the work, just make sure it got done.
I routinely have to pay consultants, some high school age, $60 an hour to come in and straighten out or upgrade my store's computer system. And....they do it, thank goodness.
Those kind of jobs just were not around 20 30 or 40 years ago. Of course, not all the under 25 year olds who will post on this thread will be dot.commers but I bet they will outnumber every other occupational category.
Hope for their sake it lasts a long time.

I was 18 when I got my lightning.
I used my trade in (97 gtp) and then I borrowed 8000 from my dad, and used what money I had left for the rest of the truck. I had to have foot surgerey so I was out of work for four months, thats why I borrowed the money, but I paid my father back in less the 6 months.
Since then I the truck is all paid for and I pay for all the modifications, which is allot of money there.
I do have the luxury of my company paying for the gas and insurance on the L. thats one of the perks of working for my dads company. insurnace is only 1000 a year under the company anyway. Gas, thats another story, But I work allot more then 99% of any kid my age that I know of. I start at 7:00 in the morning and I don't go home till 7:00 at night almost every night, and sometimes I stay later. I work about 70 hours a week. My job is fun most of the time, but thats because I like what I do. Demolition and asbestos removal. Its fun.
Hey if you can afford it, get it.
I do come from a wealthy family and I would have what I have if it wasn't for my fathers dedication and hard work, but I do appreciate it and I hope to god I can do more for my kids some day.
