Post ** Engine flutter on shifts SOLVED!! **

After putting up with that damn flutter for the last few months, I finally set aside some time to get under the beastie and find what was making that infernal noise just before, during and just after shifts. I checked all the exhaust system heat shielding, cats heat shielding, fuel lines, anything that may start to vibrate when the motor gets in the upper rpms. Nothing, everything was nice and tight. I took a good hold of the exhaust tips and shook them back and forth quickly and got some noise that probably could be heard in the cab. I adjusted all the rubber hangers a bit and still would have a good amount of noise as I wiggled the tips. Got some rubber bungie cords and hooked two of the S-hooks to the bars that are welded to the tips and hooked the other end to the holes that are on the underside of the truck bed and went for a 20 mile road test.......NO MORE NOISE!!! If you think about it, attach a bunch of piping to a vibrating motor and, if it's not secured really well, you will get complementary vibration. Problem solved and it's not the motor....thanks God! Now, I've got to take some time and tinker with the system so I don't have to use the bungie cords.

I have to try that, last weekend I tried the "loosen every exhaust nut and bolt, put it in gear stuff" and still have it.

My dealer ordered me the counter weights that What04 put on his, I will let you know if they help.

Also I ordered a MagnaFlow muffler with the internal crossover inside, it will be going on with the weights in a few weeks. I have a feeling that the lack of a x pipe or srossover on our exhaust contribute to the vibrations that some of us are experiencing.

Where do the counter weights go? I will have Ford pay for it if it works.
