What would be a fair price for my stock 5.4?

After all the response to my last thread about my new 2.6 KB, I have been contemplating replacing my stock engine and tranny with a built combo to take the punishment in store for my future configuration.
My dilema is: if I by a new short block/ported heads, and yank out the stock units, what could I sell them for?
I have a friend who might be interested in upgading his F-150 (what a sleeper), but not sure what price to ask.
I havealso thought about dropping it in a mustang for fun

Depends on the milage etc. I sold my stock longblock for 1500.00. It only had 19000 miiles on it. FYI, shipping is a major pita.

I would keep the stocker. Why replace a perfectly good engine, and I'd want the satisfaction of actually blowing the damn thing up.
