Our Brakes Suck!

Went to FORD to get an oil change, and some new brake pads, only to find out that I had heat cracks in the front rotors, thus I ended up getting 2 new front rotors and pads! It was way too expensive $850 f@!%&# dollars!

It seems to me our brakes in Lightnings go out out pretty damn fast regardless of how you drive it!

Any advice for a cheaper route next time? I've heard of rotorpros but how is the quality?

its a problem for all F150s- they go through pads pretty quick. brakes are easy dude, next time just buy the parts and do it yourself. First time, just take your time and it should still only take you a few hours. also, you dont have to buy Ford parts- there is plenty of good stuff for a lot cheaper. Doint it yourself should run like $250 tops for pads and rotors.

I've got 209,000 miles on mine and I just put rotors on for the second time last Sunday. Less than $350 for pads and drilled/slotted rotors for all 4 from a SV over on NLOC.org. Took about 4 hours. They work and look great!

New Hawk HPS pads (~$80 /pr front or rear) at PepBoys or Tire Rack, new rotors at O'Reilly (~$20 each) seals a few dollars more, bearings if needed. You were no doubt using ceramic brake linings, they will heat check and even blue your rotors. Bleed the brakes enough to replace all the brake fluid with fresh Valvoline synthetic brake fluid, Valvoline Synthetic has high dry and wet resistance boiling point, widely available, and relatively low cost.

You will not have that problem with the Hawk HPS pads. Generally can change pads 2-3 times without changing rotors, but with price so cheap, you can change them every time if you want. Sorry, dealer (or most anyone else) will screw you for rediculous prices. The work is relatively easy, but help form an experienced friend is good if you are inexperienced.

I went 50K on the oem pads. I was impressed how many miles the pads lasted. It is hard to stop a 4500lb truck.

I have got nearly 50,000 miles and just got them checked and they are still good for another 10,000. Can't complain on that also these are the originals not been replaced yet.

Driving habits are the culprit.

Besides the ABS issues we all have these brakes are great for a daily driver. Just pulled mine last week and at 70k they are very close to being replaced. I will turn the rotors as they are almost perfect and just replace the pads.

Good thing you don't have a Ferrari. Their brakes REALLY suck. $1400 for pads and several grand for rotors...

As previously noted, "brakes" are all about your driving habits. I bought my L new in 2001 - still have it - never a problem with the brakes.

Well, I have the front brakes from a Ferrari F50 -- does that count?

27,000 miles, and I've been through about four or five sets of front pads, and three or so on the rear.

My driving habits must suck.

That's why I finally went with Brembo all around. I had too many instances when I wasn't sure if I would stop or not with the stocker's.
