Talking My First Pass in the 11's

Ever since I ran 163 MPH at the Texas mile I have been waiting on good weather conditions to try my race tune on this built engine at the 1320. Here is a video of my first pass down the 1320 with my new (new to me) built engine. I was racing Clay (Red 92) in his 02 L. The weather was perfect. It was about 47 degrees with about 45% humidity.

I was pretty pleased with the numbers. My suspension mods are 3” drop shackles and truck-traks and other than a FTVB my tranny is stock. The only thing I removed was the soft bed cover and I was running 30”x14” M&H Cheaters with Bogart Wheels. Stock tires and wheels up front. The truck weighed in at 5050 lbs with me in it on the track scales. I'm a fat boy so 330 lbs of that is me. If think with some suspension mods, good weather and dropping the hitch, tailgate, front sway bar, spare tire, spare tire winch, passenger seat and about 130lbs myself, I might have a 10.99 in it.

The truck starting getting loose about 1/4 track and started drifting towards the wall. I could not believe those big honkin M&H tires were spinning at 1/4 track! Fortunately I was able to steer it back towards the middle of the track without having to get out of it. Actually that was a little scary.

I was just blown away with Clay’s run. When we left the line I treed him by over 2/10s but then out of nowhere there was Clay, I was thinking what the heck is going on here! Then I seen the slip and his 60 ft was over 2/10s better than mine. That was just incredible. His beast really launched hard on drag radials and slappers. Plus he is on stock internals with a 4lber and a ported Eaton. Just crazy! I was really proud for him.

In the video you can barely see the start of the race because Clay thought this was also a burnout contest which he won convincingly! Actually I think that roasting the DR's really helped his 60’ time.

Hey Clay, you still cleaning rubber off the back of the truck?

While this happened several months ago, I have to send out a big THANKS to the PSI Motorsports crew in Houston. They did a top notch job installing my engine and Patrick’s tunes are just phenomenal. That guy is a wicked tuning wizard!

WOO HOO CONGRATS TX Welcome to the 11 Sec Club
Nice Vid

I would think those truck-traks are hurting you at that power level, they started hurting me in the hi 11's on my 02L and I had to switch to 58" bars
I have stock suspension with QA1's, Front Drag Springs, and 2" Shackles.

WOW what are your mods??? I ran very very very very close to what you ran with my truck weighing in at 4770 with me in it.. I have err had a whipple with cams and a stock long block making 540hp/602ftlbs to the tires, my engine recently let go on the highway a few weeks ago

Thanks for the kind words fellas. I agree Rob, I need to go with long bars. I am actually designing some ladder bars right now. The problem I am facing is the mounting brackets. I don't want to run axle housing floaters so the brackets have to be able to articulate with the suspension and still serve their purpose.

Yea I was getting close to the wall, I thought I was gonna have to get out of it but I did get it going back towards the middle of the track.

Hostile sorry to hear about your engine bro, that just sucks. But hey now you can build it like you want it. Just visit Rob's money tree.

I bought this engine from Gary Soulage out in California. He had it built by DMP. I think he ran a 10.1 @ 132 MPH (no nitrous) with this engine. I believe he held the record for the fastest all boost Lightning but the record was short lived.

Here is the info that Gary provided to me on the engine:

• Bored 15,000 over
• Teflon coated CP 9:1 pistons designed to Dante's specs
• Crower valve springs
• CNC heads by Total Air Flow
• SS rings
• Oversized SS Valves
• Billitt Crower cam bay Dante
• Lift (580-612 lift) duration 260
• Aligned bored, decked, blueprinted and balanced
• Stock crank
• Manley H beam rods
• Canton oil pan
• High volume pump
• Federal Mogal HD bearings
• ARP head studs and main bolts

I have the 2.3 whipple, BilletFlow TB, 60 lb injectors, dual 255's, and the fuel rails are off of a 97 F150. I believe that is what Patrick said. I am using NGK Tr6 plugs gapped at 0.32 and stock coil packs. I was running 24 lbs of boost. It made 642 hp/708 tq on the dyno at this boost level. I think I may be able to turn up the wick a little more on the boost. I want to push this whipple to about 28 lbs or so.

I had PSI tear the engine down and perform an MI inspection to make sure everything was in order before the install. According the PSI the engine was in great condition. They didn't have to do a thing to it. They did a great job and Patrick's tunes are just incredible.

What other mods is he running? Those times seem to good to be true with just a 4lb pulley and a ported Eaton.

4lb lower, steigmeier port, SCT9100 tuner, 16in. AF-one filter, TR6, batt. relocate, e-fan, dual pass exchanger, Large intercooler tank(with large ice chunks added), cat-back, 16 inch american racing wheels 225/70R FR tires 46PSI, M&H 275/55R16 drag radials 22PSI, Line lock, Lakewood traction bars and 2 in. rear shackle’s, PCV system removed, Spare tire, spare winch and tow hitch removed, tail gate ON, 7 gallons gas mix with 1 gallon toluene.

I really heat the M&H radials up for the best 60's, When I dont melt them with a big burnout I pull a 1.6 to 1.7, I want to try M&H 325/45R17 drag radials next. I dont deep stage..., Foot on each pedal at the launch at about 1.5K ...

Blower was removed and intercooler cleaned at 5K and recently at 10K, truck has 10,700 on it. There was nothing to clean at 10K (PCV removed) but I took it apart to check it and cleaned it anyway and ported the plenum to match the SC inlet a bit better and ported the TB a bit and clean the IAT sensor and cleaned the factory MAF....its running well. Todd tell Mike "good job" on the video....to bad that smoke didnt dissipate before we left...

Any vids of Bills 406HP STI.....

Well you are part to blame for this mess! Once you and Greg found the problem with my truck and I felt the true power, I was hooked.

Hi my name is Todd and I am a mod addict. Thanks a lot buddy!

Man how in the heck are you doing? How is the L? After the Christmas holidays we all need to get together at Hooters on a Saturday or Sunday. I would definitley drive up for that.

I'm doing well. Work keeps me fairly busy and the '06 BMW powered by a sissy 6 keeps me out of trouble. The L is sitting in my garage with the engine in the bed and in a hundred pieces. She is out of the elements and will get fixed as soon as I feel ok with spending 20k on it. I'm not going to lie, it will probably be dead for another couple of years. I'm such a bad truck daddy.

I'm down for Hooters anytime! Duh!

Couple of years? Man that is just nuts.

I have a better idea:
Let's put the engine that came out of my truck in yours. I have the long block sitting in the garage. It has 70,000 miles on it and it was running strong as hell when it was pulled to make way for the built engine.

The best it ran was 12.85@107 MPH at 5125 lbs.

This way you will at least have the L to drive when you feel like taking her out. All it will cost you is pizza, beer and maybe a trip or two to Hooters. The long block is your if you want it Steele, you are not going to find a better deal than that.

All of the parts off your old engine should transfer right over to this long block. We should be able to do all of this in a couple of weekends.

What do say?
