Post What04, I know what the R/T's problem was..

Well, I found out why my times were total junk.. For the last two weeks, I have thought that my tranny was acting funny.. It seemed to take a lot of power to get the same acceleration. I thought that it was just a dog at Cayuga, but I actually think the tranny may have had something to do with it being slow (not putting all of the power to the road). This morning on the way to work the tranny puked. A whole lot of whining, and a minor amount of actually forward motion.. SInce it puked not 4 days after, I have to think that there was likely a big problem when I was there.

Now I gotta get it rebuilt.. Oh well.. I am going to see about getting it rebuilt to handle a 150hp shot. I was nervous of NOS because of the tranny, but if it can be built to handle it, then why not. There is a place in Bradford that specializes in Chrysler transmissions, and they actually have/race a Dakota in the states.. They will hopefully be a good source. I just hope its not too expensive... I've already been told 1200 to 1500 by one mechanic. OUCH!

Till next time... And next time I hope I can post some better numbers... 2500 stall and a shift kit should help with the ET's too.

I should run ~12.5@106ish... but ran a 14.7@95 w/ 2.4 60' time... used to pull 2.0's with ease...

shes not goin back to the track till the bog is fixed, then I can whoop up on some of the big boys

Is your problem tranny related? Cause I could do better than a 2.4 60' either..

Hey thirsty,

Sorry to hear about your problems. No doubt it will get fixed, with a little pain. Good thing you didn't try to tow SnowPlow home.

Speaking of which, how has he made out?

It's been a bad week. I picked up the L Monday night with the new block heater. This new one puked on me Wednesday night. I smoked it to my dealer. They looked it over, and even had the Ford feild engineer look at it......no fault found. They put another block heater in Thursday. So far this one is holding up, but for how long? I'm not sure what I am going to do, but I don't want to drive around in something that can leave me stranded at the most inopertune time without warning.

Getting stranded is about the worst that cn happen I agree, but let me tell you.. rebuilding a tranny cause your warranty is 3800km past is a close second.. I expect to be without it for about 3 weeks. By the time I get the parts (through a friend that will get them to me for cost + 20 bucks) and then get the thing up to the shop and have them do their thing... All I know is I need it by the end of May.

I'm gonna go cry now.

Cool

Stupid question--What's a block heater? And is it a factory Ford part? Does it keep your engine fluids from freezing at night?

dogman,

You ask
Does it keep your engine fluids from freezing at night?
Answer: NO. It keeps them from freezing whenever the fluids would have been cold enough to freeze without it. Have you ever even seen snow other than in that cone you licked as a child in sunny San Diego?

Jeez SnowPlow, that's some kind of tough luck this week. I'm thinking that it's time for Ford to not return the truck until they can prove that that thing's not going to blow out of there again. After all, it's not very hard to test. Just make a hard acceleration until the truck shifts at red line. Duh!?!

I would be jumping on their ***** this time.

Dogman, the little doo hickey hanging under the truck (below) with the copper tube is a block heater, that is inserted in one of the block's freeze plugs. You plug the truck in overnite to keep the engine coolant warm. In our trucks ( those supplied in the North) it is held in by one weak screw and not always capable of holding up to the full pressure of the water pump.

AL!!! Oh my god.. Those guys at Summit are STUPID!.. Is this just coincidence to them??

Anyway buddy, you up for Easter dinner?? Roast, veggies, and a surprise desert.. Getting baked as I type. Mmmmm..

Sorry guys, I only got room for Al... THis time anyway... Gonna try and have a BBQ this summer, but to be admitted you must drive a ridiculous vehicle (Lightnings qualify).. Wanna see how full I can get my street with fast stuff. What04, if you are interested, Al or myself will keep you posted. And anyone else for that matter I guess.

Later guys.

That was a great Easter dinner James. Thanks If I can get the L to stop leaking I'll give the R/T a tow to the tranny shop for ya. All for the low low price of FREE I like the idea of a wash/wax/barbecue party. Of course we have to restrict admitance to owners with V8 power or better. Even then we have enough friends that qualify to fill up the street.

Later dude,
Al.

Cool

What 04-thanks for the info. Now I know what I need to have in my vehicles when I can finally leave this screwed up state and retire to Idaho.

Hurricane Larry- Hmm, I'm being chastised for my lack of cold weather knowledge by someone living in Florida. I do know more than the average So Cal resident in that I at least slow down in the rain and snow(having lived in Eureka, CA for a number of years). The weather is better here but the power bills suck.
