Lightbulb HELP!!! Dealer will not budge!!!!!!!

I have a 2001 Cobra on order here in Dallas(Skyline Ford) at X-plan price....I called him today and asked about a 01 Lightning instead.....He will not X-plan an L. I tried to talk him into it but no luck. Supposedly, they get 13-15 Cobras a year and have no problems X-planning them, but they only get 2-4 Lightnings and can sell every one of them at sticker. I put $500 down when placing the order for the Cobra and he said that is NONREFUNDABLE!!! After searching these boards, it seems no dealer in the DFW area will take X-plan a 2001 Lightning.........DAMN!!

Lightning production is suppose to be much higher for the 2001 model run. Suppose to be at least 7,000 trucks. In 1999 it was 4,000 and 2000 it was 5,000. Your dealer should be getting more trucks than in the past, and I would think that would mean less barginning leverage for them.

However, I get the impression that the Texas and California market has generally higher Lightning demand than other parts of the country.

I'm an "A" Plan customer and a lot of dealers in my area wouldn't accept my A Plan. I finally found one that would. I believe it is their choice but by accepting your discount they are creating a possible repeat customer and good word of mouth. Seems like a loss to them.

You would think dealers would be a little more flexible this year with the increased production of the 2001's....maybe I should wait 4-6 months and try my luck then.....I found out my cobra is going to run me $26,800.....hmmmmmm, maybe a Cobra wouldn't be so bad afterall.

afjoovt, it sounds like you got hold of a true "Used Car Salesman", your down payment money should be refunded. If he can't cancell the order or is too lame to sell a Cobra he needs to get in a new line of business. I would go right to the top and offer to buy the L at x-plan or you will take you business elsewhere. If the owner refuses, take him to small claims court for your money. Then find another dealer, out of state if you have to, and offer to buy under x-plan. Other people on this board have purchased their L this way and saved a ton of money. I think shipping runs about $400.00. Someone who has done this feel free to chime in. Good luck, and don't put up with these jerks!

Most states have a law against "Nonrefundable" deposits. You could check into that, or you could wait for the Cobra to come in and then find all kinds of stuff wrong with it. An easy thing to be picky about is the paint. Ford paint isn't the best in the business. Also, tell them that there better not be any miles on it, and that you don't want the front liscense plate bracket installed. Then if they do anything you told them not to you have a legit gripe. Just some suggestions that may or may not work!

Later,
Roger

Look at your copy of the order. The bottom of the page reads, "This is not a binding contract." Does it say anything about "non-refundable deposit?" Didn't think so.
