Has anybody done a new intercooler radiator section underneath the truck. I've been looking around the mags and site for a new one that could offer some faster and better cooling for the blower. Just somthing interesting to discuss.

I found one in summit racing that has a built in fan that measure's 21x10.5x1.75. that might be nice, I got to check tonight to see how much room there is.

That would be interesting, but also very expensive and time consuming as well. Not that it wouldn't work

It might be easier and cheaper if you add a JL Power Cooler. She looks real sweet and it performed like JL expected it to,and you also get to relocate the battery to the rear for a better weight transfer..IMO

If you are going to add an intercooler cooling tank with ice water, I would eliminate the air to air intercooler radiator altogether. Intercooler manufacturers recommend 10-12 lbs of ice and 3-4 galons of water for drag racing.

We ran a turbocharged BB Chev at Bonneville
with a 25 gallon cooler tank and about 40 lbs of ice. We could melt almost the entire 40 lbs in (1) 5 mi run.

The cae made 1550 Hp in gasoline. Inlet temp was around 102 degrees at the end of the run. These water-air IC work!

JL has some PICS over on his forum on the SVT site. It looks much better in person, and I was rather impressed with the design. I plan to have one in my truck for the WFC4.

I'm going ***** out on all the little stuff that adds up in the end.

I ordered my own fuel cell that I can custom make to fit where the battery and winsheild washer fuild is. 5 gallons of icey cold water should cool it down good.


by the way, what NOS kit did you end up going with.
My only thinking is that if its hot outside, it might be better to have another route for the water to just directly travel to the blower and bypass the radiator. you think?

Or maybe have two pumps hooked up to the cell and when you go to the track you can turn off the lower one when your makeing a pass and the one that directs water into the blower would still run that clod water threw. just an idea to think about. I'll figure somethin out within the next few days.

I actually went to Spearco & designed my own intercooler, but came discouraged after I saw what the $$ involved might be. I did bring this point up several months ago, check out the link lower intercooler topic what do you think? Also (I dont remember who it was on this board, but they shot me an e-mail saying they were either a vendor or related to spearco & should go through him if we needed anyting, maybe he will chime in on this one. Anyways I would still be interested in finding something that doesnt cost over $300 to get that will do this.

I would like to talk to this guy and see if we can maybe get a group buy on this mod for us. I think it would be worth it.

 

If you are going to put in the Power Cooler with a lower intercooler unit that more efficient you are creating in essence a better way to melt the ice in the Power Cooler. Why would you spend money to do that?

I looked into this issue over a year ago and my conclusions where.....

Well how do I put this?

You know the blocked out honeycomb section in front of the lower intercooler, well a inch or so behind the honeycomb are the frame rails. Now if you wanted to you could torch the frame rails back about 6 inches if I remember correctly. If you did this then you could make an extra cooler 8" - 10" wider than stock, a custom job. If you’re going to drop the $$$ to do this then you might as well make it twice as thick also. If there's a thermostat in there now’s the time to change that out and maybe a pump that can push more volume as well.

Also since pure water is a better conductor than an anti-freeze water mix then you would consider a drain plug on the bottom of the new intercooler for the seasonal changes.

FYI I'm also considering running the flat Nasducts horizontally under my fog lights to route some cooling air to the front brakes that could be blocked by the larger intercooler.

That's a slick looking setup. Let's see, water weighs 9 lbs/gal., so if it could be moved out back with the battery, that would be another 45 lbs off the front of the truck. What would be involved besides the plumbing?

what ever happened to the a/c feron idea about a year and a half ago? was it possible

I've seen people put together two smaller intercoolers from late model salvage cars to use in V8's. Really nice work too. I can dig up a link if you want..
