One reason is the frame coating on these trucks SUCKS. I crawled under it to look at the drive line and exhaust and it was already melting away from the spots near exhaust and every place I touched left black on me and bare metal showing. You put water on bare metal and it will rust. I am trying to show this truck some love. Unlike my 95' Tahoe which ran over any tree or shrub less than 4" diameter and idled in the summer with the a/c on for hours. I have a friend that has a Gigliotti Camaro ZR28 and it has never seen rain. The under body is immaculate all the stickers/tags are still vivid, undercoating looks new. He does this to all his nice cars like his 89'Saleen, 86' Maclaren Capri, etc. When he sells them he gets what he wants out of them. Hope my point is seen. Thanks! How about that wet traction and hydro...?

Are we talking about a truck here?

I don't know about you guys but I have a standard F-150, with pretty black and gray seats, a big MF supercharged engine, and fat tires. Nothing more nothing less.

I don't understand why some think this is a Ferrari or Porsche, hell that still wouldn’t stop me from driving it in the rain.

Just about the only thing on the streets with more testosterone is a humVee.

Reading these posts I some how visualize Conan the barbarian wearing a dress and perfume?

Don't get Conan wet or he'll melt!

I just don’t get it!

To drive in rain or not ?

Why don't you just choose a religion and worship the god of your choice. That would be much cheaper than buying a Lightning and keeping it in the shrine you have built in your garage.

Cars and Trucks are made to be driven,
Not worshiped

Yeah, and beer is beer, hamburger is just as good as steak and hundred dollar bills are just green paper with more numbers on them.

Wonder how many cobras and vettes never see the rain?

Yeah it's a truck but that doesn't mean you have to just tear the hell out of it.

L8 Apex, Don't feel bad I have never driven my L in the rain either. I got a cheap second vehicle to drive every day so I can keep the miles off my L as well as keep it clean at all times!

Seattlesnake-

We see rain daily. Don't you just love it? By the way....you shouldn't leave it wrapped in plastic cause that will create condinsation and your truck will still get wet :P

Since when did getting it wet and tearing the hell out of it become one in the same?

I guess it's from the "it's only a truck" mindset. It is only a truck, no question about that. And a vette or cobra are only cars. Nobody questions keeping a vette or cobra out of the rain. Wonder why?

Last time I checked they only made 4966 Lightnings in 00. There might just be a reason to try and keep one or two in good shape. Every go to a car show and see a car that you had years ago. Ever stop and think "wow, I wish I still had that car"?

So driving a cobra or Porche in the rain voids the warranty or something?

It is beyond me why anyone would be so uptight as to not drive a car or truck in the rain.
I suppose it is good that there are alot of knuckleheads that think the Lightnings are rare. Years from now I will be able to pick up a mint condition low mile Lightning for about half of what it cost new.
Take the 85.5 and 86 SVO's... you can find low mile mint condition ones for about half the cost of the original window sticker. Wow, what a great return on an investment.
I had a Black 85.5 Comp prep SVO (only 83 made) that was my daily driver, rain or shine. I modified that "rare" car, drove the snot out of it. Eventually it got wrecked (not my fault). Ended up selling it to some goofball car worshiper wrecked for more than I paid for it in pristine condition.
Praise the car worshiper
Power to the ones that actually drive them

I don't drive my L in the rain either. That's why I bought a '00 Contour when I bought the L, so I wouldn't have to drive it if I didn't want to.

I don't understand why some of you spend $35,000 on a truck to let it sit in your garage 5 days a week, while you buy a second car for daily driving. When you eventually sell your Lightning are you just going to feel better because there was 5,283 miles on it? If you are going to spend the money, get something back out of it. Don't get me wrong, I love Lightnings, but no way would I spend $35,000 to park one in my garage for 5 days a week. Do you not think moister forms under there anyways? Or doesn't get wet at all when you get it washed? It would take a long time for rust to form under there if it ever does, and I highly doubt that many of you would still have the truck then.

I'm sorry but some people here get a little too protective of their trucks. I'm not saying you shouldn't like them, but pull your #$%@ out of the tailpipe long enough to enjoy it!

Be VERY CAREFUL if you get caught in the rain with ET Streets on! Picture the rain drops as ball bearings, you'll understand. Lloyd

Not only do I find it quite humorous that people here get down on others for let see, putting campers on the back of their Lightnings, spending his/her own money for such and such mods, but now we got people telling you when you should drive your truck. The way I look at it, is this,YOUmake the payments on my truck, then YOU tell me when to drive it. Any takers?
