Thanks, man... We've seen the same info.. All I was trying to say is I heard you should let it properly break in before using synthetic...

5W/20 is a new (sort of) oil viscosity campaigned by Honda and Ford for 01.

Out on a limb here but I think it was designed a while back for the military? I think that they like to blow stuff up in artic regions, unless I'm being paid don't quote me.

The dealer says that the engine will be completly broken in at 7500 miles. Just thought you should know.

Cool

It won't hurt the engine at all if you start using synthetic oil at low mileage. It will just take longer to break in (mainly the rings seating). The only thing this will hurt is performance.

Corvettes come from the factory with synthetic oil and in the last few years there have been quite a few that use oil regularly. Look at the post "and you think we have problems"
I can also speak from experience on a personal motorcycle. Back a few years ago Mikuni corp marketed some super slick engine additive called VSL "very slick lubricant" I put some in my freshly bored dirtbike and the rings never seated, it smoked like a freight train. After a new set of rings and an oil change it stopped.

BMW motorcycles do not recommend any synthetics until 6000 miles. They claim their machines aren't fully broken in until then.

Exclamation

I should clarify my statement about "The only engine that doesn't like synthetic is the rotary."

Our performance engines in our "L's" shouldn't have any problem with synthetics, but please follow your manufacturers break-in procedure as they state in your owner's manual. If you own a Rotary engine based vehicle then you would not want to use synthetics.

Pardon my subjectivity and over responsiveness in the prior post that this one correlates to.

Rich, I apologize for being an *** towards you. I retract my statements earlier made. Have a good weekend.

LoL, I'm gonna beat your ***! haha, just kidding

Hmmm, I wonder if they are the only company that is making synthetic oil for the rotary now? People, this does NOT mean to go dump Mobil 1, Redline, Amsoil, or any other oil into your RX-7! This oil above was designed specifically for the rotary.

If you go to the hyperlink you'll see a ton of rx7 owners laugh at the notion not to use synthetic oil.

It is a question mark that does come up alot over there. It seems like it was a rumor about Amsoil years ago, but mazda just made a blanket statement not to use any of it!

I'm going with mobil 1 also--in fact 10w-30 not even 5w-30 cause after i get my mods on--ford won't honor the warranty anyway, but if i was worried i'd stick to 5w-20 for the 36000. you can get all the 5w-20 you want at k-mart. i have to agree tho, it sure is a turn around--man 5w-20 seems awlfully lite.

For you guys that are worried about light engine oils and extreme temps. The truck has an oil cooler that uses engine coolant to keep oil temp within maybe 20 degrees of engine temp. If your truck is runnin 180 the oil is probably not over 200 degrees. I didn't see this addressed, so thought I would throw it out there.
