I run them all the time on the street too and they do stick pretty well for street tires...When I used to run regular Nitto's or F1's I could pretty much roast the rear tires at anything under 45-50 mph, but with the 555r's it will stick at anything above 20-25 mph...They will spin forever from a stop at anything past 1/4 throttle with my combo but it's pretty easy to modulate the pedal and still out-accelerate just about anything else I run into on the street...They are useless at the track for me, but that's why I run skicks.
...Don't EVER get caught in the snow with them (don't ask how I know this )

Yeah Cailis, they do hook in the rain. They kick azz in the rain.
NJ SILVER BULLET, I now fear the snow like never before. I always did pretty good in the snow with the F-1`s with about 15-20 psi. The pros out-way the cons with these tires. Besides, it`s all about brute horsepower and rock n roll.

Not only 5k miles but if you been racing on them for over 1k you definetly do not need to be using those in the rain. Had them on my 01 L back in the day and was driving on I-10 and it was raining. Was switching lanes to go in the slow lane and lets just say Bertha is now in Lightning heaven. So word of advice whoever says they hook in the rain, take it from a frmr L owner don't drive with those in the rain if you really do not have too or you'll become a Harley owner like me.

i've run them for years on my truck on the street. I dont' think they are any worse in the rain then the f1's , but not any better. Dry pavement, they are much better.
Use the regular 555's up front with the 555DR's in the back. Many do that.
As far as the track goes, i have a buddy who would pull high 1.7's with basically a stock truck, tuned and a 6lb lower.
I couldn't hook with them any better then 1.9's at best.
I think they are a waste to buy for track use if you are over the 400/500 mark. Invest in real drag radials like Hoosiers or Mickeys.

sorry jim but yeah they are serious. i think Josh wiped out with them on the wantagh in the rain. I had another friend also wipe out on the wantagh and put it in the guard rail and it was dry out. he thinks there might have been some sand or something on the road and had another friend in his mustang put it into the wall on the cross bronx in light rain with 1 month old tires. they are great tires, just take it easy in the rain, which you should be anyhow cowboy!!!

There seems to be a wide range of opinions.

I'm at the end of my 2nd set of Nitto's on my L and have gotten ~12k out of this set. Up until I put the turbo on my truck I had perfect traction on the street and was getting consistent 1.7x 60's with a pulley, intake, exhaust & custom toon. Now anything over 1/2 throttle and they go up in smoke I have a new set in the bed just waiting a chance to get them installed...
