Buying used Lightning soon...

I'm planning on purchasing a used '01-'03 Lightning with roughly 50-60k miles. What are some things I need to look for when inspecting the truck? Regardless, I know I want the oil, diff and tranny fluid changed, the fuel filter replaced, brakes inspected/replaced, coolant flushed and filled, and supercharger oil checked. Is there anything I'm missing besides the other obvious stuff like crash damage and abuse?

Thanks for all the help!

Mike

I'll be sure to check for stainage...

I found one that I like; it's an 01 with 44k. It "looks" like it might be the one! Now, I need to worry about modding it to run with my dad's new 540 horse GT500

depending on color look to make sure it hasnt been repainted...with silver you can just look down the side. check the rear fenderwell for rubber on the inside. i dont know how most lightnings are but mine is at about 110,000 miles and its throwin a rod. so put a lil bit in an account for that rainy day when it starts knockin b4 you buy it take it to ford and pay a hundred bucks and have them run a diag. test. its worth it

Go with the 03/04. Better heads and better intercooler.

Definitely go with an 03/04. They have 8 threads for sparkplugs, compared to 4 threads on the 02 and below heads. They are known to spit out plugs.

I believe the 04s, possibly the 03s, sit a little higher because of heavy duty springs in the rear.

next tip...buy stock or close to stock if you can.

Well, I bought the white '01 with 44k I was looking at. The truck is absolutely flawless and has maintenance records from day 1. I spoke to the previous owner at length about the history of the truck; its never had anything heavier than a cooler in the bed, has never towed anything and was garaged and babied. I am a little worried about the spark plug situation, though. But, I guess that's what Timeserts are for... The modding has already begun, too. I got a Predator tuner and a LFP cold air intake that'll be here Friday!! I plan on getting an exhaust ASAP as soon as I find one I like, then that will conclude modding.
