Angry Got a Stupid Ticket today!!!

I was cruisng around and next thing you know blue and white pulls me over for not having a License Plate on the front! Shucks the ticket is $55. Now I quess after 1 year of owning the Lightning I am going to have to mount a front License Plate on! Or should I just keep on getting tickets and paying a $55. ticket and not mount the plate???

Risk it. Don't mess up your truck.
I've been driving around since March with liscense plates that expired in March. Cops get behind me all the time. Nothing happens.

I am trying to get a bill passed through the Texas Congress that will exempify Lightnings, Corvetets, and other select "bad a$$" cars from the front license plate law. Your contributions towards my legal fees can be mailed to (_______________).

I got a ticket two weeks ago for the same thing. $77 dollars in Oregon. I just cannot bring myself to drill holes and put the plate on. It just does not look right. I don't think $77 dollars every two years is too high a price to pay to keep it's good looks. So under the seat it stays.

Boy, you fella's MUST have more money than me, cuz I sure as hell couldn't spend $55/$77 for a dumb ticket. Besides it gets into my drinking money.

If you get pulled over, just explain to the nice officer how you belong to an elite group of people (Lightning owners) and that you, being a part lf this group, don't have to abide by the laws of the common folk.

Guys, I know most of don't put the plate up front b/c we don't want to drill into the bumper.

Well I haven't done it yet, but after looking it seams as though we could make a mount that screws inside the bumper, have it come out through the bottom grill and bend up, then mount the plate holder on that with some rubber behind it so it doesn't scratch the bumper. Then it could easily removed at any time we want.

Not even allowed in all states. Some places let you get away with it. But most require it be mounted on the bumper.

Sorry to hear that, David. Front plate required here in CA, too, but generally not enforced, haven't had a front plate since 1984, and never been cited for it. Too many cops ignore the law, too. If I was cited I would get my digicam and take pics of the policeman's parking lot, and show the judge that many of them don't have front plates, and then argue selective enforcement. Heck, you could just take pics of cars on the street w/o plates, and make same argument- except I noticed a lot fewer cars in HI w/o plates, so maybe the law is enforced there. But I also agree with al, its not that big a deal.

Figures, here in PA front plates aren't required but when I bought my L (new) the holes were already drilled! At least they used black screws. Really doesn't bother me.

I bought my L in TX where it is required to have a front plate but I live in TN where we do not. Luckily the guy I bought it from did not mount it on the front bumper. When the cops started giving him a hard time about it he mounted it over the Ford emblem in the front grill with nylon ties. It didn't look too bad. I removed the tag on my way home with it as soon as I got out of TX.

CBQB3, you may get away with expired tabs for a while but if you get into an accident it will be your fault no matter who was at fault because you are driving an illegal (unlicensed) vehicle. Food for thought.
