Ah .. Depends on if you are hard of hearing…

well far be it from me....

but anyone who hears that and says it's normal has **** for brains and shouldn't be calling themselves a mechanic. As for people complaining about every tick they hear, that is plain BS. I don't know how you in good judgement call that a little tick

If it wasn't making a noise before an oil change it should not make one after thats stupid that noise sounds like junk this is an expensive top of the line truck and should sound like one not an old 1955 f 100 flathead

Old thread but I just lost my engine in my 01, 13,000 miles started with mild ticking sound at startup and gradually got louder and louder over the past month until boom done. Dropped the truck off at the dealer today and will have it back Friday with a shiny new engine so no worries.

However the ticking is not normal if it lasts any longer than 2-3 seconds after u start the truck then you are going to have some problems later on down the road.

Mine never made any start up noise til a few days ago.
AND YES IT WAS THE DAY AFTER I CHANGED MY OIL.
SORRY BUT TRUE. Havent heard it since ????

I changed from 5/20 to 5/30 Pennzoil Fully Sin. It was a 40 degree morning and it cleared up within maybe 5 seconds.
I've read probaly 30 to 50 replys of this happening after a oil change. Some people change the oil again the next day and it goes away. Seems certain oil will guareentee the noise.

It also CLEARLY seems like we're talking about a couple of differant noises here. A snarl between gears IS NOT GOOD.
A tick in the morning for a FEW SECONDS that goes right away is a dry upper, or too thin a oil, or too cold a day to keep it properly lubed, or the wrong oil, or weight oil. Mine may have been too thick. It's been in the 40's every morning since and I haven't heard it again ????
