Thumbs up

alpha,
After seeing your pics and now this, my OEM shaft goes to the track with me just in case I suffer a repeat of my CF Driveshaft doing an alphadoggy.

Alphadoggy, I'd just go to a chrome moly shaft and be done with it.

They put carbon fiber driveshafts in pro stockers. Granted, they aren't quite as long as ours, but they have to absorb a lot of punishment.

I glad to hear that Inland Empire is trying to make it right for you.

That's true, Jay, but for the pro-stockers they are a disposable item, good for 50 runs or disintegration, whichever comes first. And there are not too many rocks and debris on most drag strips. I must have been out of my tree when I put a c.f. drive shaft on a daily driver. Jim Shaw is a helluva salesman, no wonder he can afford a new house. J/K. I don't think it will hurt to try the aluminum shaft, hell's bells, I'm an AAA member, but RD's plan to take a spare to the track with him sounds like a real good idea to me.

You guys will continue to have driveshaft problems until you address the real issue. Axle windup. Gears and sticky tires really increase your chances for driveshaft failure due to this. Get yourself some lift bars for about the price of an aluminum driveshaft and put that problem behind you.

Stop towing your boat at the drag races! Although it only slows you down a little, it puts a lot of stress on the drivetrain.

I realize that axle wind-up is going to be a problem. I built 30" long slapper bars for my truck, and set them with about 2" clearance to the spring for the street. When it is at the strip, I will install a 1/2-5/8" spacer to allow less windup. My next mod will be some Drag Radials.

Hopefully, this will allow the aluminum driveshaft to live. So far I have had no binding, or contact problems.

Dang, George, what a spoil sport you are. You wouldn't believe how impressed the spectators are when they see that boat hauling *** down the strip.

And Bob, check my sig, I have a device on my truck that does a very good job of preventing axle wrap. Probably the best mod I ever put on my truck.

Cool Driveshaft update

I just got off the phone with Jeff at Inland Empire Driveline, the folks that sold me my two piece carbon drive shaft. What a nice guy! He said that ACPT refused to warrantee the shaft, and claim that it broke because of a hit. That is bogus, the shaft just could not take the torque of the 1-2 shift. Anyway, he offered to replace the c.f. shaft with another one at his cost, or build me an aluminum shaft, gratis. Because of my bad experience with the carbon shaft I accepted the offer of the aluminum one, even though I have some reservations about whether an aluminum shaft will hold up to these beasts. I have Johnny Lightning's loop now, so if it does let go I will have some protection. Maybe I should carry a spare drive shaft with me at all times?
